Acharya Bangalore B-School MBA Review By Bhumi Jani

From Ahmadabad to Bangalore was all because my cousin recommended that to my father. The college is good looking and has much in it attracted anyone. I was also one of them and I got admitted here even before my final mark sheet was handed to me by Gujarat University. If you passed graduation in any discipline, you are welcome here this is the best part about ABBS. During admission, I saw quite a few people from other states but when the session started there were just 30 odd girls in the MBA batch and out of that only 10 were from other states. At once, I thought of returning back but then I was convinced by many to stay back. I won’t say it was all pleasant but having an MBA degree that too without much of an effort feels quite good actually. All thanks to ABBS for making sure that we get certificate even if we haven’t paid attention to studies much.

Every week we would be taken for industrial visits and have seminars at the college which was very new to me. I saw my fellow students interacting with such people but I never had the guts to do so. I tried my best to get involved as much as I can but my engineering mind always held me back. Come the third semester when assignments and projects were at its peak, I decided to get involved as much as I can. My fellow students and my teachers helped me a lot and getting appreciation for presentations boosted a lot of confidence in me. So, one of the biggest positives that I took back with me along with degree from ABBS is confidence.

I never saw them yelling or shouting at students. They would crack jokes and always made fun of me and I was named Khakra because that’s the staple breakfast of Gujarat. Even today when I interact with my professors, they would just ask me to send a carton of Khakras. This was the kind of bond I shared with them as my professors used to give me their tiffin to try some authentic south Indian dishes. They were so warm and if it weren’t the faculty members, I don’t think I would have been able to survive there. I thought I could name some of them but because I can’t, here’s a big round of applause to all the faculties of ABBS.

Should I call myself unlucky or the job scenario is such that getting placed from campus has just become a myth. My dad had high expectations from me but when I told him that I couldn’t get campus placement but I have an off-campus placement they were quite happy and asked to join. Off-campus placement too became possible because one of our faculty members otherwise the college’s placement ratio was pathetic. Even after paying such big bucks, we didn’t had the placements was something not easy to digest.

The boys’ hostel was inside the campus but girls’ hostel was located at Andhrahalli. It was not so far from the college but was a remote location for sure. There were some strict rules and warden made sure that we followed them. Dire consequences were in place if we break the rules. The watchman was bribed and we could escape hostel at night but once warden learned about it and letters were sent to our home. That was the last instance when we did something like that as post that we made peace with hostel facilities which were nice. The meal given was not good and even after taking such huge fees the issue was never addressed. However, I would advise all to stay at the hostels because security wise it is one of the safest places.

It was exactly opposite of my previous campus as it was completely new and facilities were all modern. However, it was 1/10th of my previous college in terms of size. Well, it didn’t bother because even in that small campus we had all the luxuries that I wanted. Beautiful garden, common rooms for girls, and nice recreation facilities. I always felt like I am at a corporate office because the uniform had blazer and that gave us the feeling that we are up for something good. Infrastructure was largely in place and I am glad to witness some of the ultra-modern facilities that I didn’t even witness in my engineering college.

Campus life depends on the crowd which was mostly of students from Bangalore. Initially I did have some problem adjusting because I could see people speaking in their own languages in front of me. UG had more outsiders than PG courses. I made friends with my juniors and had utmost fun because ABBS was all about enjoying a carefree life. MBA never felt like a tough course as things were quite easy there.
