Jesus and Mary College B.A Review By Amrita Chhetri

JMC had become my dream college when I was in school. My sister who I look up to graduated from JMC in 2013 and now works as a Visa Inspector at the Embassy of Ireland. She would always tell me that JMC made her into the woman that she is today. There was no way I was choosing any other institution after hearing about this college.

The Department of English in JMC has to be the best in DU. I enrolled here in 2022 through CUET. At that time I was called for an interview as a Christian candidate. It went smooth, rather than focusing on my mark sheet they were interested in knowing more about me as a person which was honestly an amazing thing. It made me ease up a little and it didn't feel like an interview but an easy conversation. I had scored just above average in CUET but in the end that didn't matter. I can't say it would be the same now, but it was definitely a great experience for me. It actually gave me the opportunity to get in this college not just on the basis of my marks but my overall personality.

The English faculty is very cool. When I first met my professors, I remember thinking that I'm going to have the best time here and I was correct. They're not just highly educated and knowledgeable, but know how to do their job properly. The faculties are very welcoming and would never make you feel unseen. The easy-going and inclusive environment of the class really adds up to all the great things here.

The placement cell has worked for a lot of students as it offers lots of internship opportunities. The members of the placement cell are super nice and are always willing to help in any way that they can.

Unfortunately, we do not have residential facilities for students on the campus.

I have been to a lot of colleges in DU and some even outside of DU for competitions. Believe me when I say, I have yet to come across a campus as beautiful as JMC. This may sound like an exaggeration but the small gardens, parks, the open gymnasium and all is kept so well. The canteen is always neat and clean from the floor to the ceiling. My favorite spot on the campus is the library. It consists of three floors and has ACs. There are so many books available for studying and doing research. Overall, JMC has the best infrastructure in DU according to me.

The crowd at JMC is absolutely fantastic. Every student is so talented and competent. There is no bullying or fighting on the campus. The college fests are a whole different vibe, for example the fest ‘Montage’ was exceptional. The planning and management was great. The crowd present at the fest was pleasant too. There was no drama just pure fun. There is also an unofficial queer club in the college. The cultural societies are always bringing home trophies. The sports athletes in this college are very good too.
