Pandit Deendayal Energy University B.Com Review By Bhadresh Parmar

PDPU is one of the best colleges for engineering but is equally good for B.Com (Hons). Gujarat University doesn’t offer B.Com (Hons) and there are just a few universities in Gujarat that do offer this course. My cousins in Delhi enrolled for B. Com (Hons) and to match my studies with them was the only reason I joined PDPU which was 20 miles far from my house. The university is funded by top corporate houses and therefore facilities to provide students with best infrastructure was the main aim of this university. Not just in Gujarat but the university is famous globally. Many NRI students come to study here and in a way it is rare in Gujarat but PDPU has broke the jinx by making sure foreigners come and study in Gujarat. PDPU on the whole is one of the best private universities of India.

B. Com (Hons) is different to normal B. Com as we had one extra subject in comparison to normal B. Com and unlike B. Com classes were compulsory to attend. 75% attendance was required but university would be happy even if you have attended 60% classes. Below that can be a severe pain for the students but when college has such nice facilities why would one even think of bunking the classes. The structure and manner in which the studies happened all three years was amazing and all the students from my batch passed with flying colours.

There were over 100 faculties at the campus and all specialized people were hired. B. Com (Hons) teachers comprised of nearly 20 faculty members as we had different teachers for each subject and none of them repeated in the course of three years. It was pleasure learning under them as they had hoards of experience behind their back. They also took us on industrial visits and many offices to make us understand the work culture. B. Com (Hons) will not lead us for a better future is what we were taught and almost all of us went to study further. It all became possible because of the guidance of our faculty members.

Placements were not ample but not less either. There were some big corporate houses that needed commerce graduate students but since most of the students had ambitions of studying further only a few applied and from those most of them got a job first hand from the campus. Ahmadabad is a power house in itself and almost all the students who got placed were in the vicinity of Ahmadabad and Gandhinagar. For engineering students placements were ample as the college is famous for that and the course is also designed as per the requirement of the corporate houses that have funded this beautiful college.

Reliance foundation has built one of the best hostels that one can have. I tried my best to convince my parents to allow me to stay at the hostel for a year but they said no. Poor me, as it would have been a wonderful experience. The rooms were awesome and had washrooms attached to each room of the boys hostel. The mess was equally maintained and not just hostel students but even college students can pay and have meals over there. The food was great as many legends have come to the campus and have food from the hostel mess. Hostel was too good to be true.

The campus is huge, humongous or all the adjectives of it can be used because it was that big a campus. The lecture hall was fully air-conditioned and had PCs and projectors in it. There was a separate performing arts room as we used to have events four to five times a year and that hall was dedicated for that. Students can go and practice over there as the hall had music systems and nice flooring and stage to rehearse the performances before going live. To cope up the academic challenges one needs nice food. To make sure students have the best food, there was a huge food court and a small cafeteria at the campus. You can order Mughlai, Chinese, or whatever at the campus at the food court. There was a world class gym at the campus which has now become thrice the big. Labs were meant for engineering students more but since I have seen those, they were again world class.

Cultural activities were a large part at PDPU. Students were given or rather asked to follow their passion and that is why we had some of the best performances that made the chief guest stand and applaud for us. PDPU has its own dress code for playing and I still have PDPU T-Shirt that was given to me by our coach before I was selected for the college’s football team. Getting involved with sports and making sure that I maintain a certain level of marks was how I made my life a memorable one at PDPU.
