KSOM is not just about sales or marketing as other branches too are good. Of course, it’s a tier 3 college and unlike the IIMs or other big colleges the salary is 1/3rd of what students from those college receives. What important here is that placements are nice and if you are smart enough and have worked hard enough, you can get a job worth 8-9 LPA. Freshers and work experience students were not differentiated as everyone was offered freshers jobs. Other than placements, the other aspects of the university were great as KIIT is one of the best universities of the state. University for sure is above average and KIIT SOM is one of the best B Schools of the state. Bhubaneswar is also one of the fastest growing cities of India and in 5 years from now the placements too will get better. University organizes some fests and activities but having seen some of those in Mumbai, it’s nowhere near what students of those colleges do. All in all, it’s an average institute for average students as all students may not be as good in studies but probably can grow exponentially in the work.

KSOM has its own entrance and besides that they accept various other scores. Seats are sufficient as MBA has nearly 400 seats including all the departments. It’s not a huge tussle because there are 2 merit lists and in those two lists, students for the batch are finalized. Each year divided in 3 semesters and 4th semester that is the beginning of 2nd year, is a summer training program. KIIT also has a small NRI quota and students from some Middle East countries too have always been a part of KIIT.

All the faculties were vastly experienced both in teaching as well as in corporate world. Faculties are hired from top corporate who have done MBA from famous B Schools. Their caliber and experience were enough to shower us with proper guidance as MBA is not just about verbal teaching but it takes courage as we were given virtual tasks by our faculty. They helped us with our case study solving and have always been instrumental in making us believe that never feel yourself from an average institute. Institute can only land you job but promotion at jobs is in your hand and all this motivation has helped us overcome all the fears and doubts that we had regarding our future.

Getting placed today, I believe is enough as then it’s entire up to us to grow and excel. University’s training and placement cell ran after us to make sure we all are prepared and are ready to appear for the interview. I was confident before I was made to sit in front of the deputies of large corporate firms like Tata, Mahindra, and ITC and others. Most of the jobs offered where in southern region but ITC had some fresher’s role in Kolkata and I was more than happy to take it as I never wanted to be detached from my family. Kolkata being just a fortnight from my place, I was more than happy to get placed nearby my hometown.

If you remember my previous review where I have complained about the hostels. This time I would tell exactly the opposite as hostels of KSOM were amazing. KIIT University has quite a few hostels for both boys and girls and MBA students enjoyed the luxury of having hostel of their institute. MBA students were taken extra care of as we were provided nice meals to make sure we stay in best shape not just from physical point of view but mentally as well. Coffee vending machines were installed at the university and we were free to go and grab our cup of coffee at any point in time.

One needs to see what a beautiful sight KIIT University is. The university took years and years to build and even today, restoration work is going on because maintaining such a high-class infrastructure is not at all easy. The fountain at the university looked so amazing at night and the gardens that had some amazing sculptures were even greater. Sporting facilities of the university again were something that one should come and check. While most of the universities make students play in mud, KIIT has made sure that University playground are as good as Barabati Stadium.

Some people were amazed to see the fests and other curricular activities but having seen all of these of some big colleges of Mumbai, I felt KIIT’s club and activity center needs some time to grow. There were nearly 20 clubs operating but most of them have become laughing clubs because the debate always ended on a lighter note. It doesn’t matter now as the university has managed to bring in joys in the face of the students by getting them placed to some of the biggest corporate of the country.
