Utkal University BA+LLB Review By Sarva Kamila

I got enrolled in 2022 and as a first year student was very nervous because during my higher secondary, I pursued science stream so choosing law was a great u-turn in my life. However after spending few months at University Law College, Utkal University, my nervousness vanished and I started loving law.

I belong to 5 year integrated course of B.A. LLB. (Hons.). To pursue this course you need to complete your higher secondary from any streams by passing at a minimum of 65%. Earlier enrolling system was based on qualifying entrance exam along with that due consideration was given to early academic performance of matriculation and 12 the percentage. However after being affiliated to SAMS Odisha, your 12th marks are of utmost consideration.

The Faculty members are highly experienced and concerned regarding the academics of the students. They make sure that the students get crystal clarity of topics discussed in the classes every day. Exams here are conducted on time with strictness and the faculty members complete the course on a very commendable pace.

If you firmly want to go for a law college where you aspire to get a campus placement immediately after the completion of your degree, then University Law College, Utkal University is not meant for you. The amount of knowledge you could get is immense however placement is once in a blue moon or it's the rarest of the rare case. Students prefer to apply outside the placement cell through contacts and letter of recommendations acquired during internships.

There is no hostel for boys in University Law College, Utkal University. The infrastructure of girls hostel is quite average. There are total 2 floors. The ground floor contains 7 rooms including a hall which is spacious compared to other rooms, the 1st floor contains 8 rooms including the warden's room with attached bathroom and one other room in the ground floor right below the warden's room also has attached bathroom, rest there are 4 toilets and 4 bathrooms in every floor which are clean. The ground floor has Indian toilets and the 1st floor has western toilets. The rooms contain 2 fans (the hall has 4 fans and one room in the ground floor has 1 fan), shelves and 1table and 1chair.There is a terrace with a beautiful view. No induction cooker and gas stoves are allowed though electric kettles are allowed.
to get into the hostel you need to be on a good rank in the merit list and your residence must be in a distant place.

A very honest review regarding infrastructure would be that college lacks well equipped infrastructure. Earlier we used to have just academic block and administrative block along with a small library. However after the construction of new moot court hall and conference hall, the college is showing prominent signs of development. We do have an extensive library and network resource center where students can access daily legal and current affairs. The classrooms are also well equipped and spacious. Clean toilets are also available separately for boys and girls. The college has ample amount of free spaces around it too for further developments.

Our college organises various recreational as well as student awareness programs. Throughout the year various events take place like the International Conference On Human Rights, Vishwanath Pasayat National Moot Competition, Fresher’s Party, Sports Mania League, Farewell, Annual Function, and many more. There is a good senior- junior relationship among all the students.
