After studying in Kerala, which is known for its greenery and huge college campus, coming to KSIT was weird. The campus of KSIT is small but decent. The crowd is mostly of students from southern states and Gujarat. Not many North East students with whom I have spent a fair bit of time in Kerala. Moving ahead with KSIT on the whole, it was nice to be a part of the journey that this elite college is. Machines are my weakness, and when I knew Machine designing in M. Tech, I immediately made up my mind to join KSIT. There was so much learning, and dynamics changed completely as the course had not much to do with what I learned during my graduation period. The machine designing course is amazing as not just placements, but with regards to learning as well, KSIT is damn good.

Academic wise KSIT is phenomenal because the kind of system they have implemented is itself a differentiator. Nothing like school as attendance here is not compulsory. We were sent to workshops often as college doesn’t have its own workshops. The college has tie-ups with many companies and those companies workshops were our classrooms many times. Unlike other departments, where students can stretch on their benches in the classrooms, Machine designing students had to stay out and go bonkers on the field. I simply loved it as it was a complete industrial training rather than just the studies.

Faculty played a huge role in assigning tasks. M. Tech is not about books but about practical learning, be it whichever department. The professors had the experience of working in the same niche industries and had their networks and contacts as well. Not just the college management but many times even professors invited industry experts to give us tips. The faculty did more than they should to ensure students get optimum exposure. Even with smaller and lesser facilities, KSIT’s faculty is more than capable of shaping student’s careers.

Auto companies and tech companies were the ones who needed our branch students the most. It was like an auction as most of the students had multiple offers because the placement interview was not just verbal, but we were asked to display our projects and how have we cracked the code of designing. Many medical companies too have joined hands as they consume the maximum machineries. As per the expertise and talent the students were offered jobs by many known companies. The pay package just tripled from B.Tech students as 60-70,000 per month was average salary offered to students of out batch. Along with that, there were hardly few who missed out because maximum students were placed through campus itself.

For the first time in my life, I saw that the hostel was neither inside nor close to the college. It wasn’t far, but still, we had to travel to the hostel in college bus. The college is way too far from the main city, and therefore the hostel is always in heavy demand by outsiders. The hostel was nice as rooms were spacious and kindly, they had attached washrooms. The food provided was at par but could have been better. Hostel life, though was amazing as students of various states bringing tucks after the vacation was a nice way to know about the culture of their state. It was learning beyond college and probably the best place to come back after a hectic day. I always wanted to enjoy the hostel life, and the KSIT hostel provided me with a quality hostel life.

The infrastructure of KSIT is not a grand success as even after the college is located on the outskirts, the campus is fairly small. Students face many logistical and commuting hurdles due to that. Among facilities, the college didn’t have their own workshops required, but mechanical labs were still superb. The classrooms were amazing, and the student area was great, even in that small little space. There was a smoking zone at the back and a canteen just close to the front gate. There was a gym room and an indoor sporting arena for students.

As much time we spent on the campus, we had to go off-campus as well for projects and training. The balancing between campus and off-campus life was amazing. The professors would accompany us for projects and make studies even more interesting. Activities were also in numbers, but our course was such that we didn’t have many active students in events or the fests.
