KS Institute of Technology M.Tech Review By Naman Rathore

KSIT is located a little far from Bangalore city and is, on the whole, I would say, a decent enough college. The campus is quite small, and therefore there's no place inside the campus to hang around, plus it is quite far from the main city. To watch a movie on Sunday, we had to travel 12 miles as the nearest cinema was that far. CS branch is the best, but TC/Mechanical is kind of okayish. The college doesn't have many sporting activities as there is no ground for students inside the campus. There's an open ground close to the college, and students used to prepare there for the university sports tournaments. Even without any sporting facilities, the college won in some sports, and imagine if the college had proper facilities, the students would have brought many more laurels. Well, the issues will always be there, but KSIT, as I have mentioned at the top, was a safe investment for the future.

KSIT falls under VTU, and therefore it doesn't matter whether you study at Ramaiah Institute of Technology or other colleges in Bangalore as they will have the same pattern and syllabus. Yes, the college is ranked a little lower, but the academics were outstanding. Students were free to attend the lectures they wanted and could continue studying independently and come to the classes only during doubt solving sessions. The practicals were taken by professors who had prior experience of working in IT companies. The computer lab was outstanding, and each student can enjoy their PC for doing their research and practicals. What more should I ask for, as KSIT gave us the liberty to study on our own, but at the same time, some mentors were there to support us.

At this stage of your academics, a student can help himself/herself by studying on own. The professors were there to help, but hand handling with them was not possible. Faculties were cool even if we had lesser attendance, but they will come and bite you if we didn't score well. I think this is fair enough. If you think you are smart enough, you should prove that. However, if you try to over smart them, then it's a terrible idea as they are the silent types who will mostly stay quiet, but if they say college result is being suffered by some, they will show them what they actually are. Thus, please don't mess with them and make sure they know that you exist, as that would be more than enough.

Among Indian companies, HCL Tech, Tech Mahindra, and Infosys are the prominent recruiters. I was targeting an international company as there are over 10-12 companies that offers job abroad. IBM, HP, HUAWEI Telecom, and Spire Digital were among the companies that offer a job in U.S. or U.K. Indian companies offered jobs around 7-10 LPA as per student's merit. The international companies’ package was thrice than that of what Indian companies offered. The placement was close to 50% as students who had demerit points or those who haven't fared well at the practicals were denied on-campus jobs. Thus, jobs are top class but only for half the strength and half the college's strength had to find a way to get an off-campus job.

The boys and girls hostel were around a mile away from the campus. If the hostels are not inside the campus, I consider it as a disadvantage. The college facilities than have a cap for everything. Like the library used to get closed by 7 and the computer lab by 8pm. The hostel though was superb as the building of KS Boys hostel was simply superb and even the girl's hostel was equally beautiful. The food was horrendous though. There were no good restaurants around and have to do with the food that was provided at the mess.

The campus is too small as per the standard set by Bangalore colleges. I am not saying that it has to be as big as Acharya or Christ University campuses but at least a 15 to 20-acre land has to be there, if you are running a college. The computer lab was the best part of the infrastructure. The indoor sporting room was so small that it couldn't fit over 20 students at a time. The gym was also just for namesake as it was too tiny for group workouts. In short, the college lacks infrastructure big time.

One can enjoy as a free bird at KSIT. You can find time to do things you love. You can study on your own, you can go out with friends during college time, and nobody will stop or question you. The campus hardly had any life, but the life with students of KSIT and life beyond campus were as amazing as anything.
