Rajagiri School of Engineering and Technology B.Tech Review By Ganeshan Chettiar

Rajagiri is one of the best private colleges in Kerala for engineering. There are better government engineering colleges in the state but private. There are many reasons for that, and the primary reason is that the college still believes in spoon-feeding. It actually made me wonder whether I haven’t passed the school yet or what. Students can hardly enjoy campus life as the management is more challenging than most. If you are a fan of sports and arts, then please get ready to be hugely disappointed as college will offer you none. Arts is not wholly dead, but some think they are more talented than others and never let anyone join their clubs. Well, Nepotism is not just in Bollywood but in colleges too. You can never be proud of being a Malayali as students, although 90% of them from Kerala think of themselves as they come from some other planet and speak only in English. Amid all the chaos, the college still was better in terms of placements and made all the other private colleges of the state envious of Rajagiri.

I am literally scratching my head on what am I supposed to write about this part. Look, the college takes academics very seriously. There are at least 2 or sometimes even three prelims before the exams and those who fail in that are made to stay at college’s guest house. As I said before, these students will undergo a spoon-feeding program to get college their desired passing results. It is unfortunate though that many people have called this college terrible or worse for this reason. Since everything is strict, how can I miss out on attendance, which was again quite compulsory.

The faculty were excellent, and hats off to some of them as they were unbelievable with their teaching methods. They were clear that they needed results, and for that, they did all that they could. Yes, they divided the students in groups of intelligent ones, mediocre ones, and some that needs personal assistance. Luckily, I was not in that. They just meant business as management had just one message for them that all students should score well and they never put their hands down without trying. Some can specifically call as hands tied, while I see it as the management kept the faculty on their toes.

First of all, hats off to the guys working with the placement cell. Everybody actually got the chance to appear for the interviews. Many IT companies have shown up, and some of them include big names like HCL Tech and MindTree. The number of people getting placed was also decent as seven out ten had placements from the campus. Mind you, it’s a significant number considering the college placement scenario in engineering colleges. People studying engineering will understand that 100% placements are not even possible at IITs, so in that sense, the number was good. Some willingly didn’t take the job while some missed out, but the crux is that placements were superb.

Hostels are close to the campus, and the college has arranged bus facilities for to and fro. There are 2 boys and 1 girls hostel on the hostel campus. For the first year students, Daya Bhavan hostel is assigned while from the next year onwards; students are sent to the huge Sanjoe Men’s Hostel that has 8 rooms on each floor. Sanjoe hostel building is of 12 floors while girls hostel (Assumption Ladies Hostel) has 14 rooms on each floor. Even if not a resident of the hostel, college students were allowed to enter their friend's rooms, but there was a time limit for that.

Nearly 100-acre campus with some of the most remarkable buildings and a lush green campus was a sight to behold forever. There was a small lake, and because it rains quite heavily in the state, the lake was never short of water. There are during my days 6 blocks of academic which also had administration blocks. One block was getting ready as I believe they have differentiated the academic and admin block. There’s a residential facility at the campus for visiting faculties or was used for making students stay if they are on the wrong side of numbers at the prelims. Inside has a lot to talk about so I will discuss about what was close to the campus. The campus positioning is definitely the best as almost all the brand food outlets such as McDonald's, KFC, Lil America, and Slice of Spice were within a touching distance from the college. The Infopark is also close to the college, and the city's five-star hotels like Novotel, Hill View and Sheraton are also close to the college’s locality.

Some clubs hardly take you in unless you have a firm reference. The seniors mostly mind their own business, so I barely knew who my seniors were. Even though there’s a sports ground, it was used only during competitions as we were never allowed to use the facilities for practice. Thus, campus life is not so great at Rajagiri.
