It is rightly said that God doesn’t give everyone all that they desire. It was my dream to study in Bangalore, but even after getting good numbers in GATE, I fell short of getting admission in Ramaiah Institute of Technology, which is why I had to take admissions here. SIT is in Tumakuru, a town around 50 miles from Bangalore city. Tumakuru is a town and not as urban as Bangalore. You will miss hanging out in fancy theatres, luxury shopping malls, or branded food outlets to hang out. However, the campus and the town remain pleasant and calm all around the year. You will not have any chaotic surroundings or traffic problems in Tumakuru. The campus of SIT is also quite beautiful, and I hardly need the reason for stepping out every odd day.

These are purely my views, as many might differ, but I felt I got top-notch or should I say exemplary education at the institute. Yes, because the location industry interaction was almost nil as for once we were taken for the industrial tour. The tour lasted four days, and that was it. Even the internship happened at the incubation center developed by TCS at the campus. Their experts came, and we virtually worked under them. As a student, one just has to develop an interest in the topic they love. The campus has enough resources for you to learn that subject or topic thoroughly with practical application.

Professors of SIT have been teaching since ages. They made sure that our basics were clear so that the topic didn’t become a nuisance for us in the future. The faculty consolidated our engineering skills, which made most of the students score above C grade. The faculty will provide enough encouragement, and all new ideas will be welcomed. The faculty had a little nerd-ism kind of approach as even in summer fests, the M. Tech students were made to attend the classes. However, the professors made sure that students never lost interest in their studies.

TCS took half the students as they have worked closely with the college for almost two decades now. Students of Computers Science, IT, and Electronics had the best set of jobs from the campus. Other than TCS, the companies that came to the campus were Samsung, Oracle, Page Industries, and RedBus. However, one problem is that the placement cell is too greedy. We had to pay 5k upfront and for every extra session, henceforth 2500 extra. They even made a deal with the students to give 2% of CTC for the first year to get better placements. These things were unfortunate, but since education itself has become a business in our country, such deals shouldn’t surprise anyone.

There were four blocks of boys and two blocks of girls hostel. The hostels are located inside the campus. Mahatma Gandhi block is reserved for PG students and is one of the oldest hostel blocks on the campus. The building is old and a little unhygienic as well. The college alone can’t be blamed for that it was also the students who made the hostel a complete mess. Thus, hostel fiasco will always have more or less the same story unless you are at a newly constructed college. Though my previous college had a fantastic hostel, SIT is nowhere close to it. The food was also a bit of an issue as the menu was much limited and the quality too was little under par.

An absolute thumbs-up as in a semi-urban town of Tumakuru having campus of this class is unimaginable. The campus is vast and is spread across 65 acres of land. There are some high-rise buildings which are newly built otherwise, the old buildings are renovated and being managed for admin purposes. The hostels need a revamp because buildings are in poor condition. The campus has some beautiful views as flora and fauna are SIT campus's theme. The campus is being watched thoroughly, and forget about the strangers even stray dogs can’t make an entry to the campus. The campus is nice and beautiful with enough amenities to make student glued to the campus.

The college has many student clubs that host many quizzes and debates. Along with that, guest talks and technical symposiums are hosted all around the year. There are enough resources at the campus and I made most use of all of them. Sports has never been my forte, but I fell in love with cycling and badminton at the campus. Thus, if you aspire for higher education and find it challenging to get placed in top colleges, SIT is not far from many top colleges.
