AIMS Institutes BBA Review By Ranjana Shekhawat

I belong to Rajasthan, and it took a lot of convincing to my parents to allow me to go to Bangalore for studies. Rajasthan has many good colleges like Mody University, University Maharani College, and NIMS University, but I was adamant about coming to Bangalore. One has to be a rebel when it comes to education as more than the colleges of Bangalore, it's the environment and the city's culture that helps you develop your personality. AIMS Institutes can be termed average in terms of other city colleges. One thing that differentiated AIMS from others was that at AIMS, we also had the opportunity to learn other value-added courses such as supply and demand chain management, business analytics, and advanced excel. Yes, they charged some extra bucks for that, but it was worth the money. One thing that I would like to clear is that don't fall for the manipulated figures on their social media platforms or brochure that, BBA students were placed for a 20-lakh package.

The syllabus was the same as Bangalore University. One thing common in every university of India is that just fill the answer sheet even if you don't know the answer. Presentation and quantity matter more than the quality for checkers. Classes for BBA were short but crisp. 8 am to 1.30 pm, and we were all free. Most girls took up HR, but my area was finance, where girls were in the minority. Our class had 15 girls from a batch of 80.

Industry-related case studies or practicals were the main task given by our professors and they were endless. The faculties used to keep the students engaged in class. Their energy during the sessions was excellent, and keeping students engaged was their biggest plus. Our HOD. Dr Kalpana was so supportive and especially to outsiders like us. Our conversation, which was meant to be for 10-15 minutes, went on for hours. Their charisma was unbelievable as they knew how to hit the right chord with the students.

Placements for BBA were decent but nothing like their website, social media sites, or brochure claims. The college offers many courses and therefore has a stronghold in bringing many companies to the campus. However, the placement cell was hardly supported as it was all left for students to show their talent, hard work, and ability to get placements. Also, don't think that premiere MNCs or tech companies hire BBA students. The companies that hired BBA students include Berger Paints, Coffee Day Enterprises, Kotak Mahindra Bank, Axis Bank, Unacademy and many more start-ups like that. Don't get fooled that the banks offered major finance roles, as the banks offered just the sales-oriented jobs. BBA batch size was around 300, and 80-90 got placed. I am not so good at maths, so calculate the percentage yourself. Thus, placements were decent as those hired were offered 3-4 lakhs annual packages.

There were three boys and one girl's hostel at the campus. The girl's hostel was called Reechu, and the boys' hostel were named Sai, and Arjun. One was an international boys hostel as AIMS have attracted many NRIs to its campus. The hostel was known for its hygiene as the college still had some filth, but the hostel was clean. There was a volleyball and basketball court outside the girl's hostel. The boy's hostel had major facilities as their indoor gaming room was thrice the size of ours. Besides that, they had a playground for them. The hostel was completely safe and secure. No one apart from hostel students had the right to enter the hostels. The guard used to ask for I-Card every time, but they stopped asking once they knew we were regular. The hostels were monitored through CCTV cameras.

The college was a little far from the city but very close to Peenya Industrial area. This helped us during internships as I did an internship for Unacademy, and their office was just 5 minutes walking from the hostel. The classes were spacious, and the seating was comfortable. The college's central library was huge, but one new thing that I learned was that libraries too offer electronic support as the college had an electronic tie-up with Bangalore University and IIM-Bangalore Library. Since the programs were quite regular, the auditorium was used almost 3-4 times a week. The college had an excellent canteen, but the timings were an issue as they were operational till just 6 pm.

I learned that one would find Marwari and Gujarati students in any country college, be it in the South or North. I was an outsider but never felt like that as there were many students from my state. The best was that there were many NRI students, and learning from them about their culture and their point of view about India was the best experience of my campus life at AIMS.
