K.T.H.M. College B.Com Review By Ketaki Indurkar

I have chosen my B.Com course as I was not so good at studies and B.Com is one of the easiest courses around. K.T.H.M. is one of the oldest colleges of Nashik and has an excellent reputation. K.T.H.M. is affiliated with Pune University, which is perhaps one of the topmost universities of India. The management of the college was good during our time and is still the same as most of them were down-to-earth people who were always available to help the students out. The fees structure is quite less.

B.Com is not an in-depth course, still attending 5-6 hours classes daily was mandatory. The college focuses more on practical knowledge as economics is the core subject of B.Com, and that requires practical learning. The assignments and projects were made with a proper plan that could help students understand the concept better. For me, the best thing about college was that the syllabus provided plenty of material, and teachers would provide extra lectures when the exams were approaching.

There were only a few highly dedicated teachers in our batch, so I would give them 3 on 5 because some of them were there for no reason. I didn't like most teachers due to their lack of knowledge despite their decorated degrees. Most teachers used to read our books and notes aloud and ask us to complete the work on our own. While the teachers here are very qualified and helpful, their teaching isn't that great. There were some exceptions, though, as some faculty were exceptional not just with their teaching methods but in helping students regarding future studies.

There were hardly any placement for B.Com students. Even the top colleges like Symbiosis College and BMCC College Pune fail to place B.Com students, then expecting placements from K.T.H.M. would be like expecting dollars without working hard. For placements, one has to enroll for higher studies as, without that, a B.Com graduate can imagine placements only in their dreams.

As I am a native of Nashik, I have never opted for college hostels. But my other friends who were from outside were accommodated in the hostels and said that the college hostel facility was good compared to other colleges. There were separate girls' and boys' hostels. Every room had accommodations for three students, along with the required amenities such as beds, cupboards, etc. All rooms have a personal bed for each student. The hostel facilities, on the whole, were excellent. The mess was open for all as day scholars and hostel students. Outsiders had access to the mess only for lunch while hostel students had their dinner too at the mess.

The college is old in history but as infused technology as the entire campus was Wi-Fi. There were restrictions on student usage then, but it has changed over the years as students have found a way to access all they want. In our college, there are several labs, and all are well equipped and furnished. The college library is good as apart from course books, the library also had many novel and fiction books. It is also not possible to take out more than one book at a time from the library, so we can borrow the next book only after we return the previous one. The campus had hostels and a guest house. The canteen was pathetic and needs some profound changes. Our college has excellent sports facilities, and we have a hospital on campus as well. The college offers various types of sports, including cricket, archery, basketball, etc. The classrooms turned into smart classrooms from the second year and must have had many new changes by now. There are many trees surrounding the campus. On my college campus, there are several buildings, and the Godavari River flows beside us, so boating is also there right next to our college. The location was serene, and the facilities amazed me as I got more than what I expected.

The college conducts its annual festival in the first week of March. Our colleges never discriminated based on gender or cast. Everybody had equal opportunities, and any racist attack meant the students were suspended. Students can participate in various extracurricular activities that happen all year round. All faculty members are involved in extracurricular activities, and every faculty celebrates various days such as tie day, sari day, traditional day, black and white day, etc. The boys and girls ratio at the college was almost equal, and I can proudly say that college was safe for girls as many parents don't send their children to our college because it's little far from residential areas of the city.
