Bengal Institute of Business Studies MBA Review By Pratay Ghatak

I passed out from BIBS in 2018 and will say it is much different than many B Schools of the country. I planned to go to Pune or Mumbai and study in B Schools of there. When I checked the options in my hometown, I found out that BIBS is equally good. BIBS is accredited A from NAAC and is definitely the best B School in Kolkata after IIM Kolkata. I have no idea how many B Schools have tie-up with NSE but BIBS do. Finance and Marketing students had the option to do their certification program along with MBA. The programs at BIBS are dual as along with MBA, you also get a PG certificate. During the program itself, we were provided with apprenticeship in big corporate like Nestle, and Reliance Retail. Not many B Schools of Kolkata have that facility but BIBS being BIBS; have taken care of the students in best possible ways. All in all, BIBS is a distinguished college with distinguished features. If you work hard and find a way to get here, you will be secured for life.

Project papers, assignments, classes, and industrial tour would never end. If they ended, we were invited to listen into guest faculties. So, academics were a never-ending process here because MBA from BIBS is like learning everything from one place. As a student, I was always late because, if I give priority to one thing, I will miss something else. The college though would bear students as they also knew that is impossible to everything on time. Our tail was always on fire and working under such circumstances has made me tough. If I call it extreme, then maybe it was but it’s the same in our 9 to 6 corporate jobs.

The number of faculty was amazing as there were 20+ in all. If I compare the numbers with the number of students, the ratio was quite high. BIBS intake is low as they believe in providing students with mark-to-mark head. The faculties have played a huge role in me making me realize my potential because they were many a thing, which I felt I can’t do. It was them who forced to do those things and helped me get rid of my fears. As a marketing student, I have to be flexible and open for anything. My ideas would have been different, have I not been groomed by such valuable faculty of BIBS.

Rather than believing in any form of advertisements, one should check the alumni performance in the industry. With so much of social media and all, it’s quite easy. After checking what I found out was that the college placements of BIBS are a proof of the kind of great learning that they provide and the quality of industries that they invite for campus placements. BIBS have generated top quality jobs for 80% of the students of our batch. If I talk about my batch the average salary was 6.2 lakhs. Companies from diversified domains came with jobs offered in locations like Hyderabad, Bangalore, Mumbai, Kolkata, and Delhi NCR. The Big 4 accounting firms, E&Y, Deloitte, PWC, and KPMG were the main recruiters along with paint companies like Berger Paints & Asian Paints.

The BIBS campus isn’t that big and therefore the college doesn’t provide any hostels. The college does have tie-ups with some private hostels which are located in close proximity of the college. This is an area where college needs to think for as many students from other states have been consistently coming here for studies. A hostel facility from college will make things easier for outsiders.

The campus is small and there are just two buildings in all at the campus. The campus is beautiful as the college buildings looks great but only exterior part has been renovated as interior too needs some changes. There is no lift yet and the stairs are in dire conditions. The library even though small is amazing. Not just fully air-conditioned but is managed quite well. If the time limit of the book issues is over, automatically a mail and message is generated. BIBS stage is the most used area of the college as all programs, like the orientation, farewell, guest lectures, and workshops were held there. It was like an auditorium and one of the most missed places for me from the college’s infrastructure. The college has a refreshment stall kind of thing rather than a canteen because only tea, coffee, cold drinks and chips are the only things that you will get there.

The life at BIBS was some great fun. The student at BIBS never looks at each other as their competition as it was all a team building. Most of the projects were given in groups and therefore student bond was always the one to look at. BIBS is a party college as the college’s basketball court was staged like a proper party set-up. The college also has a proper dress code which is not there even at IIMs.
