PGDAV College (Evening) B.Com Review By Kriti Saini

I've spent 3 years in this college doing B.Com (Hons.) and it turned out pretty well for me. Overall college is getting better day by day. Everything you need is in college. The college will give you numerous opportunities and good experiences. You just need to go with an open mind and a learning attitude. College management is good and the admission process is easy. Attendance isn't an issue in college. Many students used to bunk the class and they only appeared in the exams. But some teachers will deduct your marks in internal examinations if you don't attend their classes. PGDAV isn't the highest ranked college in DU but you can still make the most from it if you have the right attitude.

I joined the B.Com (hons) course and the eligibility to enter this course is through DU cutoffs. The college will realise it's the minimum percentage to enter the course. The course has subjects like business, marketing, accountancy, and advertising. I am from a commerce background so I decided to do this course to get the in-depth knowledge of commerce subjects. The course was really helpful to get a job in the accountancy and marketing department.

Coming to education and faculty. Every university gets the same question paper and it's the faculty that makes or breaks the entire game. Teachers are friendly and know how to make class interesting and engaging. Most of the teachers are encouraging and will give you strict advice regarding your career. It's up to you how you apply that knowledge but I don't have any complaints in terms of education and faculty. Teachers are experienced in college and they know what they are talking about. They have more than 8 years of experience in their respective subject and the college has approximately 100 teachers.

The placement cell was also good. College gives you opportunities to apply to internships during the course. Many companies come to recruit interns for their companies and interviews used to happen in the auditorium. Companies like Genpact, Concentrix etc. came to hire final year students but the salary package wasn't that great. You'll get fewer opportunities that will give you a high salary package. Most of them will give you only 2-3 lakh p.a. But you can grab opportunities to do internships that college provides you. And if you prepare well you will end up getting a job after the final year by the college placement cell. Almost 50℅ students end up getting jobs. The average salary package was 2 lakh per annum. The highest salary package was 6 lakh per annum.

There are no hostels provided by PGDAV college.

The infrastructure of the college wasn't perfect but the college was spending funds to make it better. Renovations and constructions used to take place to improve the overall infrastructure of the college. When I first entered college, I wasn't satisfied with the infrastructure but within a few months, the infrastructure got so much better. It has improved a lot so college looks decent now. You'll see people bragging about the college canteen. PGDAV has the biggest canteen on the entire campus. The quality of the food was good. The canteen is clean and hygienic. The canteen is the biggest plus point of the entire college. Food was easily available and made keeping cleanliness in mind. The college has two libraries, one for the morning college and one for the evening college. It's huge and you can also issue your course books at a very affordable rate. The college's auditorium is fully air-conditioned. All Computer labs are fully furnished and air-conditioned. The easily accessible medical facility was also there. Playgrounds are huge to play sports.

Fests and cultural programmes also take place in college. Fests used to be extremely crowded and college can afford a good singer. But there are a lot of other colleges that are doing much better in terms of fests and cultural programmes. The arrangements of the fest were ok-ish. The location of the college is also good. You can easily find a bus that will directly drop you at the PGDAV bus stop. You can also come through the metro. Vinobapuri metro station is within walking distance of the college. So overall transportation wouldn't be an issue. The sports and drama society was also really good. You can join and learn a lot of things there. There are numerous societies in the college. You can take part in extracurricular activities to showcase your talent and skills. In PGDAV evening college, the ratio of girls and boys isn't equal. There are many boys but very few girls in the college. In my class, there were around 60 boys and 15 girls. This ratio needs to get better. The crowd of the college was decent but not the best. You'll find like-minded people but it will take some time to click with people. Don't have high expectations. When I entered college, I didn't find like-minded people. But you'll find your tribe soon. You'll meet all kinds of students here. Some of them will be from another city, some of them live in PGs and some of them live with their family. It will be a very big shift from school to college. There will be cultural differences but once you start to talk to people, it will give you good exposure and experience.
