Ahmedabad University B.Tech Review By Apat Shubham

The overall experience I had at Ahmadabad University is average but I would say it was good in terms of extracurricular activities like sports, fests, events, crowd, etc. I joined the university in 2021 when covid-19 pandemic was going on. I had a score of 97 percentile in JEE Mains. My experience has been overall positive because the people I meet here are the best and I couldn't ask for a more beautiful and well-behaved crowd and infrastructure at university. I would recommend this university for fun, interactive and active extracurricular activities.

The overall Academics at Ahmadabad university is average. The courses are relevant with the current market or industry; changes in course work are also made every year to improve it. In 1st, we have subjects like Data Science, Discrete Mathematics, Fundamental of Programming and in the 2nd year, we have subjects including Data Structures, Database Management Systems, Stochastic Process, Embedded System, etc. In 3rd year, subjects such as Machine Learning, Computer Vision, Big Data Analytics, Software Developing, Cloud Computing and many more are a part of the course. In 4th year, Theory of Computing is taught to us. The professors are great here but they don't engage much with the students’ activities, still they do allow students to do research projects under them. I have done a research internship in deep learning under professor Mehul Raval, which helped me get many internships and placement opportunities. Now I will tell you about the university policy and courses we have to do outside of B.Tech. A B.Tech student has to complete 146 credits in their 4 years of course. Almost every course is of 3 credits. So, every semester is of maximum 21 credits that mean 7 courses can be taken together. Now, we have around 3-4 core Computer Science courses like I mentioned above in one semester and we have to do 3-4 GER courses or Minor courses. Ahmadabad University offers GER (General Education Requirement) courses which allow a student to study in every field and these are mandatory courses in domains like Biology, Performing and Visual Arts, Mathematics, Social Science, Humanities and Languages. These are done by a student in order to have basic qualities of every field and make a student ready for their future career which definitely helped me to build soft skills like communication, problem solving, time management, team management. Also, a student can take any GER which is the reason why I chose Ahmadabad University. I have done courses in almost every major like Economics, Finance, Psychology, Philosophy, Design, Communications, French language, etc. This allows students to take a break from their course and explores more. Then there are minor courses, I can do an 18 credits minor course outside of my major for example, I am doing my minor in Business Analytics. There are credits for internships and projects that we have to do in the final year. This course curriculum is designed in a way that most of the students doing bachelor's can do their master's abroad as all the abroad universities like Harvard, Stanford university follow these types of credit systems. So, this university is great for you, if you are going for further studies.

The faculty members are all IIT Post Graduates. They are all very well experienced and fellow researchers in their fields. Professors don't engage with students much in class but if you contact them personally, they are very helpful and supportive. I have done a research internship under professor Mehul Raval in deep learning. The teaching style is good, but they stick to textbook syllabus only.

There is a Placement Cell in the university. The placement cycle starts every year with AMCAT exams where only students scoring above 70% are considered eligible for the companies offering above 10LPA package. 45% students were placed in our placement cycle and 60% students got placed at 5 LPA packages with companies signing long term bonds. The average package here is 5 LPA - 6 LPA and highest is 13 LPA. Companies that came to the campus are IQM, Future First, Quicko, Injala, Cygnet one, Rysun labs, etc.

Yes, there are residential facilities, but it is not on campus. The university has tie ups with an accommodation firm named Feels Like Home. I have not stayed in a hostel, but I have heard reviews from my friends. The hostel fee is quite expensive, and the food quality is average. They do have some activity games like football or snooker. There is a curfew time of 11:00 pm.

The infrastructure of Ahmadabad University is a marvel. All the buildings here are designed by famous, award-winning architects. There are 4 buildings in our campus including Science college, Arts college, Commerce college and a university center. The University center is made for extracurricular activities like cafeteria, gym, lounge, sports courts, various management offices of university, health center and the Placement Cell. There are all the facilities like Wi-Fi, sports grounds or courts for every kind of sports from cricket to table tennis, libraries, silent study areas, gym, amphitheatre, auditoriums, reading rooms, changing rooms, multipurpose hall, everything you call an amenity is there in the university.

The campus of Ahmedabad University is very lively, it is in the heart of the city of new Ahmedabad city. The students that comes here for education are from very well families as the fees are very high here. There are more than 16 student clubs all managed by students only. Clubs likes sports, quiz, literary, theatre, film, music, photography, dance, fine arts, food and many more. All the clubs have their club members and commitees. There are many fests that goes on throughout the year. Fests like sports fest, youth fest , Tech Ingenium fest, panaroma fest, chiasma fest. There are also other events like there is Ahmedabad University Premier League in cricket, Tiki Taka football league, Raquets for tennis, badminton. And there are events every wednesdays and fridays. So yeah Ahmedabad Universities campus life is very great if you are looking to have a great experience.
