RV Institute of Technology and Management B.Tech Review By Aayush Mishra

RV Institute of Technology and Management is a second campus of the renowned RV Institute of Engineering. While it is an institute under the same trust as RVCE, it is an independent institute in its functioning and operations, which is often misunderstood. RVITM is a relatively new institute (est. 2019) and has only 3 branches to choose from in UG (CSE, ISE, and ECE). My personal experience at RVITM is average. The primary reason I chose RVITM was because of the placement record. In one line, if your sole purpose is to get a reputed institute's degree, then join RVITM.

I joined RVITM in ECE stream through KCET by getting a rank of 31,000+. The Eligibility to RVITM is mainly through KCET and COMEDK. For each branch, there are around 80-120 seats. Academics in RVITM is quite strict and particular compared to other institutes. You are always under scrutiny to do well in exams and be regular in class, which encourages students to do well in end-sem exams. RVITM is affiliated to VTU. There should be an improvement in the course curriculum by updating it to current trends.

All faculty members are highly educated in their fields, majority of them holding masters and PhD. degrees. Some of the senior professors have even written research papers and hold patents. One problem that should be solved is communication between professors and students. The teaching style should be more practical rather than adhering to textbooks. I feel like scoring good marks and completing assignments is important, but concepts should be clear as well. Also, according to me new project ideas should be encouraged which are innovative so that the students get to up skill themselves.

RVITM established a Placement Cell just last year (2023) prior to which RVITM appeared for the placements along with RVCE students. This was good in a way because it meant more companies came for placements, but it also had its disadvantages. The placement cell of RVITM has just started so it is still growing. Last year, the placement record was low but because of the brand name of RV and also its emphasis towards academics suggests that placements are definitely a strong suit of RVITM compared to other institutes in its vicinity. Placement training and internship / projects are taken seriously to ensure the best possible placement record.

The hostel of the institute is about 1 km from the institute itself. Although, students will have to walk most of the time as there is no regular transport to commute from the institute. The hostel rooms are good and new and with attached bathrooms in every room. Rooms are spacious with accommodation for 2 but there isn't any space for recreational activities. The hostel mess is average.

RVITM is not very large. A single building houses all classrooms, laboratories, administration and the rest. A canteen is there with limited food options, and it is on the expensive side. Sports facilities include a football field and a tennis / basketball court, and Indoor facilities include gym / table tennis which should be maintained more. Classrooms and labs are decent and well-maintained. The auditorium is large and nice. There is a library with mostly textbooks.

Campus life at RVITM is not up to the mark. It is a majorly Kannada speaking institute, with almost 70% crowd from Karnataka. There are quite a few clubs to choose from and you can also start your own club if you have a different idea. There are two fests which are organised every year including a cultural fest and a tech fest and both of them are enjoyable. The most important part is the location of RVITM is in the heart of JP Nagar which is close to the city center with good restaurants, malls and city life.
