Calcutta University - My second home

Overall Rating
University of Calcutta is one of the top-notch universities of this country for sure. The student teacher ratio is 1:20. This university has produced numerous notable alumni like JC Bose, SN Bose, Meghnad Saha, etc. It has one of the best ROI investments in B.Tech courses in this country. You need to achieve a good rank in WBJEE to get into this university. So, you must work hard and choose CU.
 

Academics Rating
I have enrolled into the JFT branch of this university. We need to clear the WBJEE exam and must have 50+ marks out of 200 as UR candidates for selection. My motive to join this branch is to be an Engineer working for MNCs & pursuing his passion as an engineer.
 

Faculty Rating
Most of the faculties are either IIT or abroad graduates. They teach us through the dictation method of pedagogy. Our campus has a very strong math faculty as it has 3-4 professors for that part of the subject. And all of them are practical oriented teachers. Moreover, computer labs are fully operational and real-time industry focused. Regular fairs and workshops are held as a part of professional courses.
 

Placement Rating
Students got placed in reputed companies like Raymond, Arvind Textiles. In our JFT branch 100% placement scenario is there.
 

Infrastructure Rating
Our university has 3 tech campuses. Our technology campus has everything you need as a student. It has a big and well-maintained academic block, a cafeteria, and a library, etc. Our library has more than 1,000 books at the moment. There are many fictions, non-fiction, technology related books. Our canteen opens from 1:00 PM till 5:00 PM and students can get snacks, lunch and everything else at reasonable prices. Some buildings also got renovated recently.
 

Campus Rating
Our main tech campus in Salt Lake has 4 acres of land. It has everything for academics like library and well-equipped laboratory but It does not conduct extracurricular activities, fests and doesn’t have any club. It solely focuses on placement & higher research studies. Although, I believe there should be a balance between studies and extracurricular activities. We should focus more on making these extracurricular clubs, as it's very less in number now.

    I appeared for WBJEE in 2023 and got a rank of 7332. I opted for University of Calcutta and got admitted in instrumentation Engineering. My over all experience has been excellent. Campus (salt lake) is new and beautiful, classes are air-conditioned, etc. One should definitely take admission if he/she wants to pursue a B.Tech course without hefty fees.... Read Full Review

    I have been a first year student at University of Calcutta for B.Tech course. This University is good for students who are from economically weak background as this college has very less fees. This college provides a wonderful opportunity to students for internship and placements.     Overall assessment of Calcutta University’s M.Sc course has been good. The academics here are also really good. The faculty members are always there to help and are very supportive guiding through the topics. They use multiple teaching techniques. Admissions are simple and the course fee is pocket-friendly. The campus is well-equipped with modern classrooms, libraries, labs, and other facilities. Placement cell is active and a large number of big companies visit for placements.... Read Full Review

  • My Overall Journey at University of Calcutta

    The emphasis on lab skills as well as research is laudable in the M.Sc. Botany program at the University of Calcutta. The placement scenario is quite good as there are TCS, Wipro, Biocon, Pfizer, etc. who are ready to offer lucrative packages. The tuition fees are nominal, other than that there are merit-based scholarships for students.     First of all, it's one of the finest colleges for B.Tech in West Bengal. Its academic is not so tough, even average students will be able to enrol very easily. Faculties are very understanding and helpful. Internship start from 5th semester and almost 100% eligible candidates get placed. Hostel facility is very nice, there is no ragging as such, food is good enough. Infrastructure and campus life is alright. So, a choice for others.... Read Full Review
