Campus Life at OP Jindal Global University: Events, Societies, and Celebrations

I'll be giving my perspective solely from the law perspective since that is what I am pursuing. The University is surely one of the top ones in the country, be it in terms of faculty, course material, infrastructure, including library, common rooms, etc. It is just great. I am currently in 3rd year and the way the University is developing is tremendous. The University has compulsory residence so you become close to other people in University throughout your degree. The faculty here is from different parts of the world graduated from top colleges and Universities around the globe.

I am enrolled in B.A.LL.B (Hons.). Jindal offers 3 types of 5-year programs: B.A.LL.B, BBA.LL.B, and B.COM.LL.B. I personally chose BA one because I am from humanities background. However, all three courses have minimal distinction among each other (At most 3-4 subjects) rest law, and many BA subjects are the same. I would still suggest do your research and check out the curriculum available there since every year there are slight changes. At my time we had to give LSAT, but now they have changed the paper pattern from US to UK. So, from this year, it's LNAT. Just go to the official college website and check for the college entrance exam date sheet and other information. They revert to you about the results on the email you are registered with, and then the seats are offered on a first-come basis. The academics prepare you very well for your internship and other practicalities of law.

So at my time, if you score a good percentile, let's say above 90%, you start getting scholarships if you fulfill the criteria for your whole degree. Without scholarship, the fees, including your security deposit and every other miscellany expense, came out to be about 43.5-44 lakh for 5 years. But since it was 3 years ago, the fee right now must have increased by a lakh or more. For that, check their official site again. Apart from the entrance exam, if you do well in academics on a yearly basis and you are eligible as per the conditions of the scholarship, like family annual income, etc., you may earn a merit-cum scholarship for next year.

Faculty members here are mostly great. A lot of them are from IVY league grade or top law school grades around the world. They have vast knowledge of their subject and they all teach you beyond course material and on practicalities of law. You have office hours that you can schedule with the professor if you need to understand some topics again or clear some doubts. Your grade is a 50-50 distribution, with 50 marks being with faculty discretion and the other 50 being your end-of-semester exams. The faculty gives you- PPT, research paper, quiz, mid semester, essays, reflection paper, etc. as internal component for those 50 marks. The teacher-to-student ratio is also pretty good. Jindal has high recruiting faculty numbers with their alum tested.

From what I have heard about other law schools, even a lot of NLUs, Jindal has an active placement cell called OCS. They have a portal called Superset where they post all the internship opportunities. You apply there with your CV and the OCS sends those CV’s to the recruiters for internship opportunities. Thus, the system helps streamline opportunities for you. It helps you secure your internship faster than other college students. This gives you reassurance about the same. All tier 1 firms and renowned advocates take interns and offer jobs here. Placements are also on higher end.

Hostels are just the best. For girls you usually have 3 sharing rooms with washroom attached. 4 sharing in 1-2 hostels. Similar for boys as well. You have an app called Space Basic and smart Q where you can submit your requests from carpenter work, electricity, room cleaning, laundry, etc. Whatever you may need to be fixed and cleaned, that all is covered in your fees beforehand unless you cause excessive damage or vandalize any property. The mess has a non-onion and garlic counter for people who don't eat the same due to religious or any other reason. You always have north Indian + South Indian + Chinese/ Italian food with some sweet in lunch and dinner. You have good snacks and breakfast as well. Plus the timings between every meal is around 2 hours apart at max. The timings extend to 2.5-3 hours at least. There are no specific hostel timings as the hostels are inside campus but you do have campus timings that change every other semester a little bit for boys and girls alike. Personally it’s pretty great.

Girl’s and boy’s have separate hostels. You have Murthal in 20 minutes distance from college. You do have some restaurants around campus, but if you are looking for aesthetic ones, you may have to go to Delhi for it, which is around 40-45 minutes from the campus. All classes have AC’s. Even your rooms have AC. You even get heaters in winters for the rooms. The University recently got air purifiers during exams due to excessive pollution for libraries. There are 2 libraries which has 3-4 reading space rooms attached to it. There are auditoriums, halls, moot court rooms, etc. Currently, a MOOT Court building is under construction. The building for indoor sports is supposed to be done by next semester. Faculty members have their own building where they have their offices.

Inside campus, you have various food outlets like Dominos, Subway, Dunkin Donuts, Motimahal, and Chaayos. Baskin Robins, CCD, Nescafe, etc. You have a common playroom where you have a pool, snooker, carom, etc. There is one in each hostel building as well. You have a central gym for everyone in college. All schools have their own clubs. Law has clubs for literally everything, so you will find what you like. You can also enter in clubs from other schools apart from Law. The University has a cultural fest, i.e. BISWAMIL, a student-led fest where they get big artists and food joints. The sports scene is also big. You go to various Universities to compete, like BITS Pilani Goa, IIT, etc. There is a sports festival as well called MAGNUS. Apart from this, you have small fests happening throughout the year. The crowd is pretty cool. You may have some culture shock moments, but that's literally part of campus life you need to be prepared for in any University. Just find your people and your vibe. You are good to go.
