National Institute of Technology B.Tech Review By Aditya Shrivastav

Firstly, it was a massive honor for me to study at NIT Warangal which is luckily in the south but not dominated by south Indian students. This was my first comfort and then the comfort became such that even after pursuing PG, I remember all the four years that I spent here. An AIEEE rank of below 2000 is all that it requires to get admissions here. Yes, arguably it is one of the best NITs and mind you not just in academics but in other activities too. The management and faculties were quite clear about the discrimination thing because out of all the southern states, AP and Telangana are two states where you can find people understanding Hindi. National Institute Of Technology Warangal never appreciated the ones who desperately chased placements as they were clear that due to the institute's image one might get hired but in the IT sector, the attrition rate is high not just from employees end but from employers end too. The college also runs classes for entrance exams and students were free to enroll for them at a very nominal fee. What may surprise many is that 30% of students who even had job offers opted for higher studies.

Academics is definitely the thing to look out for at NITW because one can do all sorts of things here but can’t mug at all with academics. There was always a key battle going on among the students who wanted to top because the ones who topped in each semester got a complete fees waiver for the next semester. The reward was such that students thrived to do better because a new hero emerged every semester. I couldn’t be that hero ever because I knew my limitations. Coming from an ordinary school but with extraordinary dreams landed me here. I just loved how the college made its academics do the talking.

When I first saw the professors aged 50–55, and some even senior citizens, I was like how are they going to teach us about ultra-modern things? The institute has this knack of surprising and trust me I wasn’t just surprised but shocked knowing how well they have kept themselves updated with the technology. Most of them have been employees of big IT firms but have left their job as they felt teaching was a more calming job then to do coding at some IT firm. Thank God, they did that otherwise their teaching talent would have been under the roof where it wasn’t raining.

This was again a surprise for me because many banks and investment banking companies came for placements. I thought only the IT companies needed us but technology has befriended every single industry and therefore you name all the top companies of the world that operate in India and you will find them at NITW campus. Some of the surprising names were IBM, Goldman Sachs, ICICI Bank, and others. In fact, they were the ones who offered the highest placements as IBM is still understood to deal in IT but the others have nothing to do with it.

I haven’t counted but for sure some 20 wings of boys hostels were there. One thing that surprised me here was that wings were at different places like one hostel block here and few there. However, students could just choose NIT Warangal Hostel Rooms they want and the hostel allotment part was purely on the management. Now, the food part was little beyond my taste buds as that food could never drool my taste bud. Firstly, they cook in sunflower and coconut oil and for that to gulp, one has to develop that taste. I tried that for the best part of 1st semester but then had to give it up. Luckily Rice, Sambhar, and Dal was always on the menu, so I used to have that or buy food from college canteens.

If I have already said that NITW is the best, then not just academically but infrastructure wise too it has to be the best. Well, the sprawling 250 acres of campus has almost everything and the best part is everything is ready over here. I went to many NITs for events and competitions and trust me they were not even half of what NITW is. The central library of NITW doesn’t just have books but around 5k e-journals too. The indoor gaming area has billiards tables, carrom, and table tennis facilities. There’s a faculty club house where students were allowed as well and there were multiple gyms in that building. From academic to recreational things, the institute infrastructure was exhilarating.

Firstly, even the North Indian students can feel home inside the campus as everyone was quite accommodative here. If it wasn’t the food part that took away a lot of kilos out of me, I would have rated campus life 10 on 10. Engineering colleges and events go hand in hand and needless to say that among all the NITs, NITW events were of the highest magnitude.
