Symbiosis Institute of Technology M.Tech Review By Jatin Vats

Most of the students join Symbiosis Institute of Technology because of the track record and prestigious name it holds in academics. The institute, for years, has been the pedestal for learning and a premier institute for many students seeking admission. However, many candidates fail to understand that you need to slog to keep up with the standards they have at the institute. It can be tough for those who think laid back can sail them through; you have to work long hours to survive till the end of the course. It’s not a one-day show; hence, many who get enrolled find it hard to sustain and often fall out of the radar. So, firstly it takes a lot to get here and then to survive here takes even more doing. I have sailed through and can say from my experience that doing assignments after assignments and projects after projects, I have literally lost myself in the process. However, the life I am leading post that is something that has become possible only because I have been able to sail through at SIT Pune.

SIT Pune fees happen to match its rating; however, the curriculum for engineering was the same as other colleges, which wasn’t so pleasing to note. To get through the vast syllabus and work very hard to get your marks was excruciatingly painful for the initial semesters. Some of us finally got the hang of it, while others didn’t bother as much, and their grades fell as they left the course midway. The momentum definitely was hard to sustain throughout and made it tough for those who thought that engineering was fun. Unfortunately, the reality was different. Two years of tough life beckons all for those who enroll here.

The faculty was exacting with standards, but they also knew the pressure they were putting on us. Hence, they made sure we understood the concepts well. It did take a huge part in them as well as they were heading a huge institution which they had to live up to and make sure students didn’t ruin the reputation by not keeping up with what the college had set forth for the students. The only good part that I carried forward was that the faculty wasn’t against us, and they equally put in as many hours as we did. So, faculties here were not just hard working but took care of students like their own.

The internship experience boosts our chances of pursuing good placements. Many companies don’t end up treating their interns well, and you might get to know their work culture as well. It was never the issue in the case of SIT Placement, which always boasted of good placements from the beginning. All students had to undergo mandatory internships, which helped me to pursue which companies I would want to work with in the future. The top-tier students always managed plum posts; however, we, too, got into companies according to our capacities. Not one to complain, I felt none of my friends got stranded. All were placed by the end of the course.

The campus housed four boys’ hostels. One was for the M.Tech students, the rest was reserved for the undergraduate engineering students. Symbiosis Institute of Technology hostel had all the amenities, and we didn’t have to go out for anything. If you crave something, you could check out the food outside the campus. The food was found on the campus within a budget, with vegetarian and non-vegetarian dishes served. The view from our hostel rooms was great as the campus was located far from the city center. You could get the fresh air and beautiful view of the hills that made our day.

The college had all the amenities, but they were all small and definitely needed revamping. The indoor facility was inclusive of a squash court and nothing much. Those who had inclination, played while others stayed away and stuck to studying. The play area couldn’t manage for us to play high-impact sports such as the ball, or anything would go onto another compound. However, they had a healthcare facility on campus because there was one nearby the college. The healthcare facility doubled for the village near us.

We saw a fair mix of people from all over the country in the hostel, and we got along well. Many of the local students also came and took their admission to the hostel as they didn’t like to make the long commute to the college. The location made it a beautiful place to join. The engineering students were burdened with work in the form of assignments that had to be completed before deadlines as they impacted our internal marks. So, we didn’t get much time to explore outside of our campus.
