Institute of Marketing and Management PGDM Review By Aman Pathak

In the tier-2 category, there are various PGDM colleges in Delhi like FOSTIIMA, New Delhi Institute of Management, JIMS, and IMM. Well, since I have been a part of IMM, I will say that IMM was among the above names and the most valuable choice. Well, since I was adamant that I will be doing PGDM from Delhi, these were all the options that I had and I feel, I chose the best. The courses that IIM offers are general PGDM and some specializations like Analytics, Digital Marketing, Marketing, Finance, HR, Operations, etc. One is free to choose the course they want as Finance and Marketing are among the most sought-after ones. Digital Marketing may have taken over now as the E-Commerce business in India is growing and therefore the demand also is quite high. One must know that admissions here are not that easy as to get admissions here, one needs to have a suitable score in competitive exams such as CMAT, MAT, XAT, CAT, etc. Placements are good but ROI may not be justifiable as only 70% of students are placed on an average and therefore the sword of uncertainty is always there.

The course is fine but the college offers various opportunities to its students to not just learn the subjects but to develop one’s own personalities here. Being a marketing student, all we were taught was how to sell. So, if we can’t sell ourselves forget the products or services that we sold. After the completion of the course, the first thing that others observed in me was that there was a great amount of change in me. Change in perspective of how I used to look at things then and after the completion of the course. All those projects and hustles that I did at IMM paid off as before the completion of the course, I was placed too.

IMM will present a good platform but one needs a mentor or supporter who can guide us on that platform. The faculties assured us that if we give our all in the two years, we will have the best set of placements. Also, if marketing students can’t get placed then no one can. They made us work really hard as attending sessions and events was made mandatory by them. We also used to have a lot of off-campus activities and we had no choice but to be a part of it as faculties used to observe us from behind on whether we are doing it properly or not. So, faculties took note of all that we did during projects and rectified all our mistakes to make sure we don’t make the same mistakes over and again.

The placement committee of the college is quite organized. They took the responsibility of the placements on their shoulders and made us join the placement drive program. It was a paid thing but they gave us all the catches that are attached with placements. How to crack and deal with it was all that was taught them. Well, when the final placements finally happened a month before our finals, companies like Axis Bank, CITI Bank, Indusind Bank, E&Y, DLF, and Nestle were there at the campus and offered jobs worth 7-8 lakhs to maximum students. In marketing, the placement percentage was 70-75% and it was the highest among all the other specializations.

The college provides hostel facilities for boys and girls. One catch here is that hostels are not inside the campus but are off-campus. The students were provided rooms in twin sharing and the hostels were only for those who were outside the Delhi-NCR region. The capacity wasn’t that much and that is why they made this rule, I guess. Well, that is all I know as I am from Delhi and thereby was not eligible to book my stay at the hostels.

Infrastructure is world-class as IMM is one of those rare colleges that have 3-D classrooms. One can see the smart board from any angle of the class. Even IIT-Delhi doesn’t have such classrooms. There were multiple recreation rooms with pool tables, table tennis tables, and various other sporting facilities. However, there were no outdoor sporting facilities as the campus was small to have a sports ground in it. Now the college strength was around 600 and the cafeteria could serve just 1/10th of that crowd at one time. After trying to get in a few times, I decided to boycott the cafeteria as anyways I couldn’t get into it. The biggest contribution of the infrastructure was its library as it had the highest collection of books among all the colleges in Delhi.

Well, most B-Schools have introduced a dress code but IMM luckily doesn’t have any as we were free to wear all that we wanted. The college gave us suits that have to be worn only during seminars as on the rest of all days, it was a civil dress war. Most events of IMM took place off-campus as the college was small to host big events.
