SSN College of Engineering Stands Out for EEE Course

The overall experience at SSN College of Engineering was wonderful as it was beyond the cinematic picture that I had in my mind about college. I wanted to choose a college which had a reasonable fee for EEE course and SSN had it. The major factor that made me choose SSN was the friendly atmosphere that every pass out student talks about which was never told about other colleges. The college has a beautiful infrastructure and very good incubation centre too.

I always had an urge to study about electrical and electronics so in my 12th also I chose the electronics subject as my major. At SSN College of Engineering I pursued BE in electrical and electronics which was my favorite. I took admission through the government quota so it was just by applying directly on the portal and for management quota you are supposed to write an exam and then attend an interview. When it comes to academics, mostly the students get on the track after 2nd year because that is when the actual core subjects apply to real life.

I paid Rs. 1.5L per annum and for hostel, Rs. 75,000 per year. No discounts are available and for day scholars. The bus fee is compulsory which is again Rs.77,000. Lots of scholarships are available and for students from rural areas who are eligible candidates get the rural scholarship where the entire tuition fee is waived off. Other scholarships like the sports, merit cum means, merit, etc are available.

Faculty here are very supportive and friendly so they are easily approachable. Let's ignore some who are really strict but they expect lot of discipline in work. The head of every department takes full responsibility for every student let it be personal or academic they make sure the parents are informed about the progress of the student which is a very good thing because there is no further problems created.

The placement cell does bring lot of companies. The average package is about 8-10 LPA and the highest package in my batch as per my knowledge is 21LPA. HCL, Avalara, sagent, L&T, cognizant, ashok, leyland and other top companies have visited the campus for placement. A decent amount of students have been placed but one drawback that I noticed is that students selected for internship are also counted as placed.

Hostels for both girls and boys are inside the campus itself. The girl’s hostel has tight security and is separately located away from the boy’s hostel. The gate for girl’s hostel is closed by 8:30 pm and for boys after 10 pm. They can enter the gate with proper reason. The hostel fee is about Rs. 75,000 and mess fee is separately paid based on the number of days you have. It costs approximately Rs. 3000. I am a hosteller. The maintenance is avaerage and the number of students is more. They force the capacity of the hostel rooms which makes it more congested and not comfortable. The out pass rules are too hard and needs to be reduced because even during emergency they make us running around for getting sign in letters which is not right.

The campus is very huge and spread over a large area. The best part of the campus is that they have been maintained very well. Always kept neat and clean despite of having so many trees and bushes around. The classrooms are well cleaned but in some departments the benches are old and not that good which does need some care and replacement including the fans. There are 5 eat out places in total which includes a main canteen and each other eat outs close to department junctions. There are projectors in each classroom and lab equipment are also regularly maintained. The main attraction is the fountain and the clock tower which adds beautiful to the college environment.

The college has lots of clubs that include the humorous club, sports, dance, salar tamizh, literary club, subject related club, design clubs, etc. The students are from various states so it is mostly a mixed crowd and they mingle easily. There is no ragging so the students are actually friendly and interactive. The major fests are instinct a cultural fest in month of March and ‘Invente’ a technical fest in month of October. Overall SSN is good as compared to other colleges in surrounding because there is the necessary restriction and the necessary amount of freedom.
