Jagran Lakecity University BBA Review By Mohit Pal

JLU is a thing that has the best of reputations but in reality is nothing but a common place like others. The university glitters better than gold but as they say all that glitters is not gold. There are no eligibility criteria for JLU admission to any of its courses as one can take the admissions at will. I was not even sure which course to choose as after commerce the choice anyways is few. The counselor at the university urged me to take BBA as he said three sections are already full and one section is left. More than me it was my parents who were impressed and said, you take this course. They promised some of the most lucrative placements and all and I knew something fishy then and there itself. However, I was lost with the infrastructure because there are many private universities in Bhopal but no one even half of what Jagran University Bhopal offers in terms of infrastructure. Well, at least I enjoyed my campus life as I made friends with some ordinary students, I mean I was also one of those but we dreamt a little extra ordinary for ourselves and ended up achieving that.

Boring is the term that comes to my mind because classes has to be interesting and an interactive one. Well, rather than it was the faculty coming with some notes putting them on slides and let the robot narrates it and she will tell us to ask doubts in between. So, basically the classes were there to flaunt that they have got the best technology in the house of universities and no other university has such facilities. Facilities wise it is true but the person standing prior to the smart boards has to have some brains otherwise such technology looks nothing but a gimmick.

My values don’t allow me to demean anyone but trust me those faculties were good for nothing. We live in an era where anything below PhD looks below par and here freshers graduate were hired as faculties. It was unrealistic and the best part was that some of them even propelled us to prepare of entrances and I was like, you should have done that before jumping into teaching jobs. Well, we have passed out and they I suspect are still continuing with their jobs and somebody from recent batch might curse the university as I am doing five years after leaving the university.

You all must remember while playing cricket that there was that one or the other guy who will give every single excuse possible for dropping a catch. Likewise, the university gave us various excuses but the placements. We friends were like cut the crap because we all were certain that placements are definitely not happening and we already made our further plans. This was the beauty of our batch that most of the students are at places today as JLU may not have provided the placements but provided a positive environment that propelled us to work hard.

Well, if one can go bananas over anything than that has to be the JLU Bhopal hostel. My word, hallelujah, they were divine. A piece or should I say master piece because the building was simple but the furniture of the rooms, better than most students had at their homes. They were hostels and still had AC, geezers, showers, and what not inside the rooms. Food part I don’t think one can complain because if all these things were taken care of why food would be left behind then. The hostels inside the campus are not sufficient and therefore the university has some hostels off-campus too.

A campus far off from the city as it was over 15kms from my place and coming on bike was like the worst thing I felt like doing. Luckily, the university runs luxurious buses that travels to all parts of the city and therefore I started coming by bus. The bus won’t move until its 5 pm. So, we had a lot of time checking the food courts, the sporting facilities and sometimes even the library. The auditorium was one of the best as it was no less than an English theatre; I just wished that the plays that I witnessed were a little better. So, infrastructure on the whole was nothing but exemplary.

One thing which JLU presents the best is a great campus life. I found friends for life, brothers from different mothers and things which I always dreamt of doing like playing musical instruments or performing with girls at an event. So, a lot of my dreams other than academically came true at JLU but if academics spices were added a bit, the journey would have been a lot different. Never mind though as there’s always a light at the end of the tunnel and therefore, I left the university on a happy note and even today when I remember the university, only happy things are what I recall.
