B.Tech Career at SGSITS Indore: Top Placement Opportunities

I am in my 3rd year of B.Tech in Electronics and Instrumentation Engineering. The overall experience in this institute has been very nice. This journey has been very fruitful and has taught me a lot. This institute has built its reputation since its emergence in 1952. The alumni network constructed here over past 70 years has made it the first preference for students looking to be admitted to B.Tech. The placements here have been very consistent over the past decade compared to other institutes in Indore. The faculties in SGSITS Indore are very qualified most of them being PhDs which amplifies the experience of learning here. Thus, this institute has been first choice for students after IIT and NIT in Madhya Pradesh.

I chose Electronics and Instrumentation branch for my Bachelor's in Technology. This department has excellent research facilities in the field of Microelectronics, VLSI, and Semiconductors. It is also equipped with EDA tools licenses such as Cadence, Synopsis, Siemens, etc. Students can learn about these tools used in industries. The placement in this branch is moderate with 60% of eligible students being placed in companies. The admission process in this institute is done through DTE counseling for B.Tech. Students can fill out the choice filling as per his/her requirements. The admission is done through JEE Main scores. My course operates in the semester-wise system, which consists of two mid-semester exams and one end-semester exam at the end of the semester. The semester also has quizzes, assignments, and externals within it. The academics consist of a balanced combination of theory and practicals, which prepares you for industrial processes. However, I consider this curriculum to be quite outdated due to advancements in technology.

The fee in this institute is paid semester-wise. The admission fee at my time was Rs. 11,000. The tuition fee for every semester is Rs. 45,650. Several scholarships for category students are available for which students can apply through their portal. ‘Medhavi Chhatra Yojana’ is another scholarship program that students can avail.

My department consists of 10 to 12 faculties. 5 of them are senior and working in SGSITS Indore since 20 to 25 years. Others are newly recruited within the span of the previous 1 to 2 years. Most of them have done ME from prestigious universities while some of them are PhDs. Professors teach most of the time on blackboards or whiteboards. While they make use of PPTs on some occasions. Several activities such as quizzes, group discussions, and case studies are also conducted. The teacher-student ratio is approximately 1:60. Faculties are very approachable. We can also meet them in their cabin for doubt solving.

The institute consists of a training and placement cell that conducts placement activities in the institute. The team consists of the placement head, TPO officer, placement coordinators, and student volunteers. It also conducts various seminars and provides opportunities to help students get placed. Some of the renowned companies that come into institute are Goldman Sachs, Adobe, Samsung, Deloitte, Groww, etc.

The campus consists of two main buildings, which are constructed recently. Other departmental buildings are old and need to be updated while installing some modern facilities. The campus size is approximately 35 acres. While campus size is its disadvantage, SGSITS Indore’s locality provides various pros to the students. The Railway Station and Sarwate bus stand being in its vicinity provide a good commute. Students can also prepare for higher studies as coaching are very near to the institute. The institute also consists of a huge library with books on every subject.

Overall campus life is very good. Due to high cutoff, the institute crowd is very good (if you avoid some exceptions). Many clubs are present in the institute, which offer various activities including tech and non-techs such as E-cell, Idea lab, CIDI, Kshitij, and also some departmental clubs. I am in robotics club of my institute, which conducts various events and workshops. ‘Aayam’ is the main highlight annual event of our institute, which includes various events, recreational activities, competitions, and workshops.
