Choose AEC Guwahati for Your Engineering Studies

Assam Engineering College is one of the oldest Engineering college in the entire north east established in 1956 by Jawaharlal Nehru. The college is situated in Guwahati Jalukbari for which students choose AEC to gain some exposure. My reason for choosing AEC was also same to gain some exposure. there are many day to day activities going on in the college. Assam Engineering College is different from other engineering colleges because of the location it is situated in.

I have chosen the Bachelor of Technology in Chemical Engineering. I have chosen this branch because in the entire Assam this course is provided by only two institutions one is Indian Institute of Technology, Guwahati and another is Assam Engineering College so there's is less competition in Assam for this specific branch. For getting into Assam Engineering College you have either get a good percentile in Joint Entrance Exam Mains or there's an another exam for the State Engineering colleges of Assam which is Combined Entrance Exam that is conducted once every year.

The fee for each department is same for the 1st year student which is Rs. 30,000 but from the second year fees varies. For my department which is Chemical Engineering the fee is Rs. 25,000 and there are no fees for the registration for the even semesters. There are many scholarships in which one can apply such as NSP (National Scholarship Portal), Ishan Uday (only applicable for fresher students. students who have taken a gap year cannot apply for the particular scholarship).

The professors at Assam Engineering College are highly qualified and are very students friendly and available for each student. The number of regular teachers is very less as compared to student professor’s ratio so sometimes it gets really complicated to complete the syllabus in the given time which directly affects the students to matchup with the curriculum. Teachers at Assam Engineering College always try to discuss the topics in the easiest way to get better understanding by the students.

The placement cell at Assam Engineering College is highly active and every year new companies used to visit the college. The placement cell is run by both students and the faculties. Many known companies visit the college for placement drive. There are many known PSU's that visit the college too such as NRL (Numoligarh Refinery Limited), ONGC (Oil Natural Gas Limited), etc. The highest package in 2024 was offered by NRL to 8 students which 24 LPA and the average package of Assam Engineering College in 2024 is 7 LPA.

The college consists of total 9 hostels in which 8 hostels are for boys and 1 hostel is for girls. In every hostel there's a high-speed internet connection of 100mbs. For first year students there are 2 separate hostels out of the 8 hostels. In every room there 2 students intake. The mess food is average and quite hygienic. There are no particular timings for the 2nd, 3rd and 4th year students but for 1st year students the in time in the hostel is 7.30 PM. Hostel fees of every hostel is Rs. 10,000 and have to pay a separate mess fees which varies in every hostel.

The main academic block of Assam Engineering College consists of many departments but for the department of Chemical Engineering and for the department of Computer Science and Engineering, and Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering there are different blocks. There is a block for the 1st year students known as NAT (New Assam Type) building. Infrastructure in Assam Engineering College needs a lot of improvement. Sports facilities for indoor Sports in Assam Engineering College are not that good because there is no indoor stadium in the college but a new indoor stadium is under construction. Outdoor sports facilities in the college are pretty nice.

My experience in the college is pretty nice because the seniors and the faculties are very helpful and always available to discuss the problems we are facing. The infrastructure in Assam Engineering College is also not that bad so I love here in Assam Engineering College and there are always 4 to 5 buses which connect us to the main city of Guwahati so we don’t face any issues of travelling. There are many clubs in the college which are really active and always in search of new talent.
