Fee Structure at Midnapore College Medinipur

At first, I have applied in various colleges of Kolkata, Haldia, and some other districts. Nevertheless, it was a new journey to me so I choose a nearby college. Midnapore College has a great reputation. The faculty of our Economics department is very good in nature. The teachers here are humble to students. The admission procedure was also smooth. The library, canteen and most important my classmates are very good. I feel lucky to have all of this. So overall experience is quite good.

The fee we have to pay is not very huge amount as this college is a government-sponsored college. We paid around Rs. 3,850 for admission and Rs. 2,900 as an admission fee in second semester. The total fee of the course is Rs. 24,000. We have paid a sum of Rs. 50 as an application fee. Our college is currently not providing any type of scholarship programs. However, if a student has 60% or above marks in their 12th exams, government of West Bengal provides ‘Swami Vivekananda Scholarship’. Arts students get Rs. 12,000 and Commerce & Science students get Rs. 18,000.

The fees we have to pay wasn't very large amount. As this college is a government sponsored college, so we are not required to pay a large amount of money for the admission. We paid ₹3850 for admission, then we have to pay 2900 as a admission fee for the second semester. The total fees of the course is 24000. We have paid a sum of 50 rupees as application fees while admission in the online portal. Our college is currently not providing any type of scholarship programs. But if a student gets 60% or above in their 12th exams, the west Bengal Government provides Swami Vivekananda Scholarship. For arts student they get 12000 rupees and commerce and science students get 18000 rupees. No discount on fees is provided for any type of specific categories.

There are 5 faculties here in our department including our HOD and 2 temporary teachers. Our HOD has done M.Sc & PhD. In Economics, 3 assistant professors have also done PhD in Economics and other one is currently doing his PhD. Our HOD, Dr. Chandrima Chakraborty is so humble and kind to the students. She teaches us using easiest method to understand for students. They never gave us unnecessary assignments. Other teachers are also good. They are friendly in nature. The teaching method is blackboard and for Statistics, we have attended several practical classes in the lab. Their problem solving ability in unbelievable. The average students in every semester of Economics department is 20. Therefore, there are no issues to give attention to each students. If we have any problem, we go to them and they try their best to solve them.

Currently, our department is not provided by any type of placement or internship opportunities. But some departments like BCA and Physics get placements from big companies like Tata, TCS, Wipro, etc.

Midnapore College provides hostel facility. The food is of average quality. Every room can accommodate maximum 3 students. We have to come back to hostel before 10 PM. There are strict rules for it. Boys’ and girls’ hostels are separate. The hostel fee is Rs. 12,000 per year. From my personal point of view, hygiene and cleanliness can be better.

The campus area is average. Most of the buildings in the campus is of 6 acres. The classrooms are neat and clean. The average sitting capacity for each classroom is 90. We do not have to face any issues over there. Our college has a library; it has a large number and variety of books (academic & non-academic). We have canteen in the campus. However, quality of food needs to be improved. The college has good security and people who are associated with the college are not allowed in the campus. Our favorite hangout place is college ground. We spend a lot of time over there. Again, the areas of improvement are washrooms and canteen food.

The overall experience is very good. The natural view of the college campus is calm. Many students sit under the trees and relax. The college crowd is average. Not so large number of crowd and not so few peoples. Our college fest was organized few weeks ago. A popular singer came from Kolkata. We enjoyed it very much. We also have NCC training camps. Overall experience is quite good.
