DTU New Delhi's Hostels: Facilities, Fees, & Student Experiences

Choosing Delhi Technological University, New Delhi was dream come true for me. It has a very good college life and an amazing campus of 165 acres, as well as next-level infrastructure. It is one of the best Engineering universities in New Delhi, ranking 29 according to NIRF in 2022. It is known for its placements, academics, and top-notch fests. It gives a large number of opportunities to students and allows students to explore various things. I have explored everything about it. Most students of Delhi have a dream to join this university.

As, I told you, I am a first-year Mechanical Engineering student, and I am interested in cars a lot, which is why I chose this course. Approximately 1 to 2 years of Mechanical Engineering at DTU New Delhi was equivalent to complete degree for the same at IIT Delhi. As of now, things have changed after the recession. For eligibility, the student must have cleared JEE Main with a good rank that is above 50,000 for general. Also, students must have secured 60% aggregate in Physics, Chemistry, and Math. The admission is done through the JAC Delhi portal. There are a total of 5 rounds and 1 up gradation round. In our university, mid-term, and end-term examinations are there, which occur after 2 months. For example, if the semester starts from January, then mid-term examinations will be in the first week of March, and the end term examination will be in the first week of May. The academics are designed to prepare students for the real life challenges.

For B.Tech students, 1st year fee is Rs. 2,36,700, 2nd year fee is Rs. 2,46,700, 3rd year fee is Rs. 2,66,700, and 4th year fee is Rs. 2,86,700.

The faculty of Delhi Technological University, New Delhi is excellent. They have a very good experience and some of them are industry experts as well. Every professor has done PhD and has decades of teaching experience. Most of them have studied from IITs, and they teach the students very easily by giving industry-oriented (real-world) examples, which help the students to gain practical knowledge. Some HODs have direct links with industries. So, it helps with the industry visits and getting internships. Some of the teachers teach on whiteboards, and some use PPT. The teacher-student ratio is 1:60. There are approximately 80 students in every class, but approximately 20 students remain absent. The teachers of this university are very chill, and student bonding with teachers is also good. They are easily approachable.

The Training and Placement cell of DTU New Delhi has partnerships with alumni and recruiters. More Tech companies' approaches university as compared to the non-tech and core companies. The training and placement cell also selects some students from every branch as coordinators; their role is to get the recruiters to come for placements. DTU is known for its placements and had the highest package of 1.84 crore per annum in 2022. The average package of a Computer Science student in 2025 was 23.70 LPA, and the overall average of all branches is 9.02 LPA.

Yes, University offers hostels to students. Some of the hostel names are Dr APJ Abdul Kalam Hostel, Aryabhatta Hostel, Sister Nivedita Hostel, Kalpana Chawla Hostel, etc. It has 9 boys' hostels and 6 girls' hostels with a total of 1600 students. The girls' hostels are far better than the boys' hostels. The new hostel of girls is equivalent to a 5-star hotel. For the first-year boys, there are no AC rooms. Girls' and Boys' hostels are separate. The students get meals 2 times a day, that is, at 12 pm and 8 pm. They charge Rs. 34,800 in advance for a complete year. Depending on the room type, there are different fees such as for single seater(Non - AC) it is Rs. 60,000, for double seater (Non-AC) it is Rs. 56,000, for triple seater (Non-AC) it is Rs. 52,000, and for triple seater (AC) it is Rs. 72,000. I am a day scholar so, I do not have a personal experience but I have heard from my friends that they enjoy a lot in hostels and according to them real college life is the hostel life.

The infrastructure of the university is great. They recently made two large buildings known as AB block with more than 10 floors. It is similar to the newly made girls' hostel. The campus has a large fully air conditioned library with more than 4 floors. The complete campus has a facility of Wi-Fi. It has a large sports complex, a badminton court, and a gym. It has a famous auditorium known as Dr BR Ambedkar Auditorium. Here, seminars and conferences take place. Also, it has a hall known as Raj Soin Hall. Transport facilities are also available for students. There is a fixed timing for the university bus. The transport facility is for the two nearest stations, Badli and Rithala. My favorite thing is the open air theatre. All types of classrooms are air-conditioned and maintained.

DTU has an amazing campus life. I myself rate it 10 out of 10. The campus life is 100 percent better than NSUT. Also, it is not so strict. Although, it has a 75 percent criteria but still life here is amazing. The B.Tech students here are approximately 2500 to 2600. There are a number of societies that help them gain skills, practical knowledge, etc. The annual fest, known as ‘Engifest’, is one of the north India's largest fests. Technical fest known as ‘Invictus’, ‘Aahvan’, ‘Yuvan’, etc. Many events are conducted by the university. It is worth joining, I highly recommend that you join this university.
