Yenepoya Medical College: Admissions, Fees, & Scholarships

As a MBBS student at Yenepoya Medical College, my overall experience has been positive. The campus is having calm green environment. There are so many facilities like sports zone, central library, and laundry services. It has a good infrastructure, faculties and it provide good placements. The faculties are highly experienced approachable and passionate and it mentor guide and inspire us in our studies. The college also has separate safe hostel facilities for both boys and girls. The college infrastructure is well equipped with advanced laboratories and simulation centers. I chose this one because of its clinical training, infrastructure, and focus on real world medical practice.

I chose this stream because it is my passion to treat the one in need. I chose this college because it has good academic infrastructure. The clinical training is also good in here. Minimum qualification is to be 12th pass and should be secured minimum 50% in Physics, Chemistry, and Biology and it should clear NEET UG. Once I got my NEET results, I had to register for counseling filled this college as my top choice and waited for seat allotment. After getting in, I had to go to college with my documents for verification and to complete the admissions. Exams are quite regular here. Three internal assessments including practicals and end of the year university exams are conducted. We also have clinical postings and hospital exposure from second year onwards. The college focuses on practical learning making us ready for real medical challenges.

The course is for 4.5 years + 1 year of internship. As for our batch, each year charges 22 Lakh (including tuition fee, admission fee, and registration fees). For final year, it is 12 Lakh. It also offers scholarships for meritorious students, especially if you scored above 80% to 90% in your qualifying exams. Also, some of my friends who are localities got government scholarships based on their category. Of course, for some students, the fee structure might seem on the higher side, However as per quality of facilities, clinical exposure, & academic quality, it is worth it

The faculty members are highly qualified and experienced in their respective fields. Most of them hold MD or PhD degrees. The teaching methods are PPT based lectures, blackboard and clinical demonstrations. For theory, subjects PPT are mostly used. We also have small group discussions; problem based learning and interactive sessions especially during practicals and clinical exposure. The faculties are very responsive when it comes to clearing doubts. The teacher to student ratio is good especially during lab sessions and clinical research. They ensure each student get attention and can actively participate in discussions and case studies. Most of the professors are approachable and friendly. They assign us mentors who guide us academically and personally. They are very encouraging and helpful.

As a second year MBBS student, we do not have direct placements like in other fields. MBBS students usually go for internships, PG or USMLE. The internship is done at the college's hospital itself, which will give us great hand on experience. The college also holds workshops conferences and guest lecturers, which help us to build our skills for PG admissions or for our future jobs in healthcare.

Yenepoya Medical College provides separate hostels for boys and girls with options for double and triple sharing rooms. Rooms are clean fully furnished and have free Wi-Fi. Hostel fee is included in our yearly fee. The mess serves 4 meals a day and the food is hygienic and decent. The hostel had strict rules and timings especially for first years. Ragging is strictly prohibited and the hostel environment is safe especially for girls. Overall, it provides a safe clean and student friendly hostel experience, which is especially suited for medical students. I find it comfortable & convenient and it really feels like a second home.

The academic blocks of the university are spacious. There are separate labs, seminar halls, and faculty rooms for each department. The classrooms are spacious which can accommodate about 250 students. Each classroom has projectors and audio systems, which make lectures easier to follow. The central library is one of the best parts. It is big and has books, journals. We also have seminar halls and a huge auditorium where events & guest lecturers happen. The auditorium is modern and seats over 800 people. The canteen is clean and affordable with both veg & non-veg options. One of my favorite spot on campus is college canteen. It is not just about food, it is the place we all gather after our long classes and postings. The infrastructure here supports both studying and relaxing which really helps to balance things out.

The campus life is good. The college gives enough space to focus on studies and also encourages you to take part in other activities. The crowd is friendly and supportive. There are several clubs and societies for music, sports, & arts; They help in nurturing your hidden talent and leadership skills. The college hosts cultural fests, sports meets, and celebration events like Onam and Eid. These events allow us to display and compete in friendly contests & build good memories. The fests are a great break from our hectic schedule and help us relax and connect with others. Even though MBBS can be intense, the campus life at here keeps things balanced and enjoyable.
