My Candid Views on MCM DAV, Chandigarh

Overall Rating
It was a positive but a mixed experience for me in MCM DAV College for women. I chose this college mainly because it is affiliated to Punjab University. The Teachers are really skilled and hardworking. Labs are fully equipped. The environment is good for personal growth and since it is all girls, it gives a different sense of empowerment and safety comparatively. It does feel like an extended school for science students. Although, placement cell here needs improvement.
 

Academics Rating
I did my Bachelor's of Science degree in Non- Medical from this college. We had an option to take up Physics Honors in second year. The eligibility criteria were all merit based. With a class size of around 50, the professor and student relationship was so much better. The teachers and other staff were approachable. Exams were same for all colleges that were affiliated to Punjab University. They were comparatively difficult. Admission process was quite easy. You just have to pay the fee once you get selected through the merit based lists. Academically, the college is quite good.
The year wise fee was around Rs. 25,000 with additional examination fee and a few other things sometimes. We didn't have to pay each semester. Overall, the fee was around Rs. 80,000 approximately. They do charge you a late admission fee even if you get an hour late. Scholarships were provided to certain students based on merit and other things.
 

Faculty Rating
The faculty is excellent. The Teachers are very knowledgeable and try to explain concepts very clearly. They encourage you to ask questions and be present in the class. The labs are up to date and we get good hands on learning with the instruments and other things. The lab staff is pretty helpful and polite. Competent professors and skilled mentors were present. Blackboards as well as white boards were there. Books were preferred over PPTs. It was a 50 to 1 teacher student ratio. The faculty is quite approachable and tries to help you with whatever they can.
 

Placement Rating
The placements for my course are nil. Most people go for higher studies after doing B.Sc. Even the internship opportunities were limited. This cell here can be improved.
 

Hostel Rating
College does offer you hostel facilities, but the procedure and everything is quite tiresome. The wardens are not very helping. The environment and timings are quite strict. I remember the closing time being 6 pm. Mess food quality is good. We were not allowed to keep any electrical appliance. There were around 300-350 students in one hostel. Hostel fee was 1 Lakh at that time with no AC available. Now ACs are available with a fee of approximately Rs. 1,20,000. The rooms were 4 seaters but quite airy and big.
 

Infrastructure Rating
MCM DAV, Chandigarh is not that big comparatively. There are two blocks, which are interconnected. Infrastructure is quite good. There are a few canteens and food joints. Sports is supported and encouraged in this college. Everything is available like auditorium, conference halls, medical rooms, transport, etc. Security is really strict since it's a girls college. Mess food is quite clean and good. Libraries are fully equipped with the latest books and magazines. My favorite place in this college was the Chemistry Lab. The Teachers and staff were just so good. The classrooms are big and airy too.
 

Campus Rating
My overall campus life was okay. People and other classmates were friendly and easy going. It was a healthy competition within the class. Fests like ‘Meraki’ used to happen sometimes. There were a few clubs but the science schedule was so packed that we didn't have any time to do any other things. The college crowd in general is good. There were a lot of cultural fests that included dances, singing, random shopping stops and other competitions. Overall, it was a fun experience.

    It’s very safe for women and its environment is very comfortable. It provides lot of opportunities to showcase your talent. Its number 2 in Chandigarh.     My overall experience at this college is going amazing. Students and teachers of our department are truly helpful and supportive. Our teachers really put their heart and soul to deliver their best so that we can learn and get hand on experience.     The overall review of the college is good. As the faculty focuses on the students study and uses different teaching techniques. The campus is very spacious and it has different sections for food, clicking pictures and for quality time with friends.
