GDC Chennai BDS Seat Allotment is Done Through Medical Counseling Committee

When I first enrolled at GDC Chennai, I was totally unaware and confused about how will be my College life and academics there. But to be honest this is the one of the best dental Colleges in Tamil Nadu. It provides better clinical and patient exposure. Over the past year, my experience has given me a clear picture of my strength and areas which I need improvement in. The main factor that made me to choose this College is the patients’ exposure and the infrastructure.

I chose Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS). The entry requirements here are to qualify the NEET exam which is conducted by National Testing Agency. Also, the candidate should have the minimum marks above the level of cut off marks. Admission process here is very easier; it is done by the Medical Counseling Committee. The exams are conducted semester wise but the main exam has been conducted at the end of the academic year. Many internal assessments are conducted by the College per month for better performance.

The fee of my course is less as compared to other Colleges. The fee that I have paid in my first year is Rs. 19,873/-. The examination fee is Rs. 7000/-. Fees details includes tuition fee of Rs. 4000/-, special fee of Rs. 2000/-, caution deposit of Rs. 1000/-, library fee which is Rs. 1000/-, etc.

The faculty members are absolutely very nice. They teach with the help of PPTs. More than theory lecture we have practical labs. They give us demonstrations many times and help us to do the works. For example, in tooth carving they will separate the whole class in batches and give proper demonstrations and helps each and every individual student to do the work. All the professors have a very good educational background like they have done Ph.D. Most of the faculty members are friendly some of them are not. The teacher to student ratio is 1:10. All faculty members are very approachable especially our vice principal. He is very friendly and responsible. We can directly approach him without any hesitation.

Our College doesn’t have a direct placement cell but the BDS or MDS certification provided by the College have a strong value in the professional world. It is relatively easier for a student graduated from Tamilnadu Government Dental College and Hospital to find a job; this is mainly because of the quality of the training received from the College and its reputation. Many of the students choose to open their own clinic with the help and support of the faculty members. The job opportunities are primarily based on the skills and knowledge that the student acquired during the course.

Yes, the College offers hostel facilities to the students to both male and females separately. But the hostels are a little bit older and a new building which has 13 floors is under construction. The mess is available which can accommodate around 70 students at a time and the food is average. The hostel provides several other facilities such as a store room, a recreation room, library, and a prosthetic lab in the ground floor. There are two common bathrooms, 2 common washrooms, and TV hall on the ground floor. Each room provides cupboards according to the number of people are staying there. There are two lifts in the hostel. The hostel fee is divided into maintenance charge and mess fee. The maintenance fee is Rs. 1000/- and the mess fee per day is Rs. 115/-.

The campus is huge and provides various facilities. Both hospital and the College are situated in one building and the building is huge. There are many departments on different floors. Each department has its own labs. The campus has parking area, library, conference hall, canteen, etc. The classrooms have the capacity to accommodate around 100 students and it is equipped with projectors, etc. The campus has auditorium which has the capacity to accommodate 500 students, transportation facilities, etc. The College provides sports facilities for games like Badminton, Volleyball, Basketball, Cricket, Football, and many others. Overall, the infrastructure of this College is good.

My campus life in GDC Chennai till now is good. The students are usually occupied with their classes, academics, etc. The College conducts events which provide the students to relax, interact, and celebrate together. The campus is not the crowded. There are many clubs such as MANAM which organizes awareness programs on important social and academic issues. In addition, the campus has committees dedicated to addressing and preventing harassment and ensuring a safe and supportive environment to all students.
