Overall Rating
My experience at NIT Silchar was a rollercoaster of all kinds of emotions. The Institute is situated at a location a bit far from town. The Institute has a good ranking, and the infrastructure is descent. There are many clubs that you can join to pursue your dream. It’s not similar to other NITs as it's situated in northeast. The fee is also way better comparative to other Engineering Institutes. They have guest house too in case your parents would like to visit but you have to book them at the earliest.

Academics Rating
Electronics and Communication Engineering is one of the best branches here and has a high cut-off too. Exams are conducted twice; mid semester and end semester with lab exams in between. Each department has their own library and labs. You can get a chance to choose electives in 3rd and 4th year from other departments subjects too if you don't like your own department subjects, you can request for new subject.
If your family income is above 5 LPA then your total fee will be Rs. 96,000/- in which tuition fee is Rs. 72,000/- and hostel fee is Rs. 24,000/-. If you belong to SC/ST category then your fees is reduced and you have to pay only the hostel fee. Also if your family income is below 5 LPA, then the fee is reduced to Rs. 53,000/- approximately.

Faculty Rating
This department has the best faculty when compared to other branches where everyone is kind and responsive. Electrical department’s professors are strict but less than the mechanical department. CSE faculties are very chill. Student-to-faculty ratio at the Institute is very appreciable as well.

Placement Rating
They have a good placement scenario. Some FAANG companies visit our campus. If possible, try to get an internship by the end of third year and work hard to get a PPO that's the best advice I can give if you want to get a job in the future. Both core and IT companies are offered. Good CGPA with no active back is important to be eligible for placements.

Hostel Rating
Both girls and boys hostels are good for first year but beyond that, boys hostels are still good but girl’s hostel experience is moderate. But it's not an issue for long as new hostels are being constructed. Hostels also have LAN connection and there are canteens in every hostel. Good security guards available throughout and some hostels have washing machine too.

Infrastructure Rating
Infrastructure at NIT Silchar is good when It comes to classrooms and library. Library has AC where you can sit and study till 9:00 PM, it also has cubicles. Good grocery stores at the campus near classrooms are available too.

Campus Rating
Campus life at NIT Silchar is nice. Being at hostel is better than being day scholar as you get to learn many new things. You have friends around you to discuss topics you don't understand. You can play games like cricket, basketball, football, badminton and tennis. They have many clubs as well such as sports clubs. You can also stay at labs and do your work, these labs are air conditioned. Fests are held so you can enjoy with your friends play games, dance together and make new and more memories. I absolutely loved the yearly fests conducted at this Institute especially Robotron technoesis.

My 1st semester is passed and now I am in second semester of my first year. My overall experience of my first semester is average as few things are hectic. I got make some good and bad friends. Factor that made me choose this institute is that it lies in the northeast region of India and I wanted to experience its beauty. I also wanted to do engineering degree from India's best institute and got this in my counseling rounds. I am satisfied by everything we got here but few things can be improved... Read Full Review

The overall experience in NIT Silchar is not bad. I chose this Institute because it has the sports facilities and it is in my interest. The natural environment is appreciable. The placement is also decent. In NIT Silchar, ragging is strictly prohibited which lacks in many Institutes. The clubs and societies are very active helping students to showcase their talent. The hostel and mess facility is also good here. There senior junior relation is outstanding. Our seniors are very talented and suppo... Read Full Review
