Overall Rating
National Institute of Technology, Silchar has a big beautiful campus. It is spacious, lush and green. I am sure if you get opportunity to study here, you will love it. One good thing about this University is that you will have the freedom to do whatever you want. You can go outside the campus even at night. I used to go for bike riding at night. Moreover, they are not that strict with attendance except for some departments, so you will get enough time for your hobbies also.
 

Academics Rating
Academic are pretty good here. I am in the Electrical Engineering branch. For admission in B.Tech, after JEE Main, students need to take part in JoSAA counselling. Every branch has two exams in one semester. Mid sem is of 30 marks, end sem of 50 marks, 10 marks for one minor test and 10 marks for assignment. In first year, there is common syllabus for every branch. Moreover, in every semester except for last and first, you have 3 labs every alternate day.
There is no academic fee for SC, ST, PWD, and those whose family income is below 5 LPA, but they have to pay Rs. 10,000/- per semester for additional charges. General and OBC category whose income is above 5 LPA have to pay Rs. 71,000/- per semester.
 

Faculty Rating
Faculties of National Institute of Technology, Silchar are the best. One of our teachers is among top 2% scientists of the World. Senior faculties generally used black board and some of the teachers use PPT also. One thing that I regret is not making a personal connection with the faculties. They are actually very supportive, especially in thesis writing and research work. These faculties have good connections. If your project is good, you can directly get a Ph.D. from IIT.
 

Placement Rating
Placements are good at NIT Silchar. Some PSUs and IT companies also come here for recruitment. They have the best Placements.
 

Hostel Rating
Yes, the University provide hostels. From first to third year, double sharing room is provided and in last year you will get a single room. Hostel plus mess fee is around Rs. 22,000/- per semester. It's subsidised actually. Good freedom is there in the hostel.
 

Infrastructure Rating
Infrastructure is old but it is okay. One famous digital library is here. Moreover, one NITS cafe is there. There are 8 boys’ hostels and some of them have canteens. There are two big grounds for sports and one auditorium for programs. There is a gym and a dispensary as well.
 

Campus Rating
The one thing that you will love about National Institute of Technology, Silchar, is its campus. It is big and green. You will love the evening walk in the campus. Many clubs are there such as Eco Club, Dance Club, and Gyansagar Club for helping the underprivileged students around the University. Two fests are there. One is ‘Tecnoesis’ which is a technical fest and one is cultural fest 'Incandescence'. One good thing about fest is the last day in which artists perform.

    My 1st semester is passed and now I am in second semester of my first year. My overall experience of my first semester is average as few things are hectic. I got make some good and bad friends. Factor that made me choose this institute is that it lies in the northeast region of India and I wanted to experience its beauty.     I am a student at NIT Silchar pursuing B.Tech in electronics and communication engineering. Overall my experience in NIT Silchar is good. I have made lots of friends here. The reason I choose NIT Silchar is that it is very close to my home town i.e. just 8 hours and the NIRF ranking is also good.     The overall experience in NIT Silchar is not bad. I chose this Institute because it has the sports facilities and it is in my interest. The natural environment is appreciable. The placement is also decent. In NIT Silchar, ragging is strictly prohibited which lacks in many Institutes. The clubs and societies are very active helping students to showcase their talent.     National Institute of Technology, Silchar has one of the most beautiful and lush green campus across all NIT's in India. Infrastructure, faculty, facilities, academics, and classrooms are very well maintained. There is the campus of 625 acres with many different things around the whole institute.
