National Institute of Technology M.Tech Review By Akhilesh Yadav

I choose Dr BR Ambedkar National Institute of Technology Jalandhar for the sake of its placements and the architecture of the institute is also very good with great research center in the institute and this institute is the home of more than 1000 students and many great faculty members. My first year in the institute was good and the campus is build very beautifully with all types of facilities for the students. It is a public university which means fee is very less for the economically weak students. There are many opportunities in the institute and there are fewer restrictions in the campus. Sports facilities are beyond expectations in the institute and one negative thing that I would say is that the alumni connections are very weak in the college. NIT Jalandhar was ranked under top sixty engineering colleges in India and it is a premium institute of the country which has a great campus with lot of career opportunities.

I was enrolled in the Master of Technology course in Computer Science Engineering after completing my graduation in the same stream but here in NIT Jalandhar I choose my major subjects in information security. Course was four semesters long with lot of theory and practical subjects and in each semester we have to do many projects and assignment according to the subjects and the difficulty of the semester exam was very high and I have to put extra effort to qualify the end semester exam with good marks. Entry requirement is simple.

The level of knowledge that the faculty members in the institute are very high and the style of their teaching was also very good. More importantly in this course the practical knowledge so we require better lab instructor and the lab teachers in the college are very experienced and they know the working of each equipment in the lab and you can discuss everything to them without any doubt. NIT Jalandhar has many great attributes to it but the most beautiful attribute of it is the teachers that are here in the institute who expert in their field and some of the teacher of the institute takes guest lectures in other institute. Taking about the guest teacher then Some of the teachers who just take lecture on weekends are best in the institute and they take the classes in remote mode from their own university.

Placements are pretty awesome and they were more than my expectations and highest package in my batch was Rs. 44 LPA for the profile of software developer engineer (SDE) and after that the placement was 27 LPA offered by the Wal-Mart. Average package in my batch was more than 10 LPA in overall packages that were offered. In my batch more than hundred companies visited the campus and offered more then 200 job to the various students not only in the computer branches but also in the circuit branches. There are paid internship opportunities are also available for the students who wants to earn money while studying. In my class more than 15 students got placed out of the 25 students and remaining choose to pursue PhD and they go for the higher studies like me. Placement cell in the NIT Jalandhar is very helpful for the students to get placed in good companies.

Hostels are also good in the campus and there are two types of college hostels in the institute one type of hostel are very big and we call them Mega Hostels and other hostels are just hostels and they have capacity like 200 students while mega hostels can take more than 500 at a time. Infrastructure wise every hostel is good and there is free space in each hostel where we can participate in various recreational activities that happen in the hostel every month roughly. In one room two students stay and there is separate room for both the boys and we are also given a bed, chair, and table with a mirror in the room. Annual fee for the hostel is around Rs. 50,000 including the mess charges and the food in the mess is very good as compared to my graduation college hostel mess. There are some decent hostels outside the campus but they charge more than the campus hostel so very few students go for the hostel outside the college and they remain detached from the college life inside the campus.

There are some good and bad part about the NIT Jalandhar and starting from the good points then I can say that campus is very clean and the cleaning workers in the institute are very dedicated to make the campus very cleans. Another good thing about the campus is that campus is ragging free which make the environment of the campus very positive and the security here in the NIT is also very tight and they observe every activity of the students. One more good part of the institute would be that class infrastructure is very good and build in very good manner. Now taking about some negative aspect of the campus then the one is that campus is far away from the main city if Jalandhar which make us separated from many facilities, another bad part would be that some part of the campus are just are of no use and college authority should do something about it.

UTKANSH is the main cultural fest that happen in the institute other than the small fests and in this fest students perform in their desired art. In this fest students from other institute also comes to participates and they also perform along us. There is also a one main fest happen in the institute which is related to the technology in which we also take part and prepare projects to the competitions and there is also a pool prize for the winners in this competition and the name of this fest is TECHNITI. Other than these two fest various events are being organized in the institute including one sports tournament. There are some important clubs in the institute other than the conventional clubs and some of them are SAE NIT Jalandhar, PRAYAS, EV club, Creative Society etc. Life at the NIT Jalandhar was full of good memories for me and I also learned a lot in the college.
