Birla Institute of Technology Lalpur is an Off-Campus Unit of BIT Mesra

BIT Lalpur Ranchi has a great reputation, brand name, placement cell, and package, which attracted me & gave me a motivation to go for this one. It is an extended campus of the BIT Mesra that was established more than 7 decades ago. Many professors have done their post-graduation from one of the top universities as IIMS etc., which help them to give us both academic and profession, experience. I would recommend this university to the students looking for good brand name, legacy, and reputation. Honestly speaking Lalpur campus has a good amount of space but they are not utilizing the resources properly, they do not have a canteen, which is a drawback for this University.

I chose Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA), as I am interested in the field of management and finance. It will also help me to prepare for post-graduation that is MBA. My motive was to develop managerial, communication skills, and decision-making skills. The eligibility criteria for admission in 2026 are that the student should have passed class 12th with at least 50% marks (45% marks for SC /ST / PwD) with English as a mandatory subject. During the admission process, students have to submit their academic and other documents for verification depending on the requirements of University and student's category. Shortlisted students are called for verification and admission. There are 4 major examinations conducted in one semester, which are 2 quizzes each of 10 marks, 1 mid semester exam of 25 marks, and then one end semester of 50 marks. This course teaches me how to manage time. Balancing classes, assignment, presentation, quizzes, etc.

My 1st semester fee was Rs. 86,500/- which includes tuition, development, and other charges. There is a concession in application fees for SC, ST students. The semester fees gradually increase every year. Eligible students can apply for Government scholarships.

Most of the faculty members are highly qualified and have completed their Post-Graduation from reputed Institute. Some of them also worked for a couple of years at corporate field before joining this one, which help them to connect theoretical knowledge with practical experience. This University has senior faculty members i.e. 60 years and above, their years of experience and confidence in teaching helps to understand a topic very easily, which helps us to have a clear base/ knowledge about a particular topic. Most commonly used method for teaching is the blackboard method, where professors explain concept on the board and give notes. Only in 2 subjects, smart board is used. Honestly, there is a need to transform into a digital class for better learning in BIT. In a class, there is one teacher for 65 students (1:65). All in all, the faculty is very friendly and approachable.

The University has a Placement Cell. The main goal of this cell is to prepare students for corporate life and connect them with top recruiters. The placement activities include industry visit, training, interacting, and opportunities to participating in recruitment process. BBA graduates prefer higher education to placement for a better package, knowledge, and overall experience. Many companies take part in campus placement drives.

The Lalpur campus does not has a hostel facility. As this University is located in central area, so many private hostels, PG accommodation is available for both boys and girls.

The campus has both traditional style and a new academic building. The old heritage building is a symbol of the campus, but it needs renovation and maintenance. The campus has a good amount of space, but they are not utilising the space and resources properly. It is situated in Lalpur, which is in the central part of the city. The classroom has 60 to 70 students. Traditional / old blackboard method is used while only a few faculty members use whiteboard to teach. The campus has a library where students can issue a book and other academic resources. Computer labs need new system, as most of their system is not working properly. One of the major drawbacks is that the University does not have its own canteen. Sports facilities are limited as compared to other Universities. The local transport facilities are easily accessible to the students.

Campus life is good and academic focused. It has a diverse crowd. Interaction among students and faculty makes environment more friendly and comfortable, which helps to build strong network and connection. There are 4 major societies & these are management, entrepreneurship and innovation, computer science society & visual and performing arts. Students can join any of them as per their interest. I am a part of management society, which gives me opportunities related to management activities and interact with other members. The University organises different activities, competitions, and fests to make campus life more interesting and competitive. Being involved in activities help students to develop various skills.
