IEM Kolkata has Strict Curriculum for Career Success in Engineering

So I came to IEM Kolkata in 2017 as I got this college from the WBJEE Exam. West Bengal JEE is a state-based entrance examination, so I was keen on taking Electronics and Communication, and for getting ECE or CSE you need to be under 3,000 rank in WBJEE. Apart from Jadavpur University, it was the best I could get so I ended up here. The institute is good when it comes to discipline and following a strict curriculum and the environment for learning is also great as a result with your fellow mates you get enough to learn and succeed. There are various seminars and activities which ensure you follow the right path. So my experience was good though the last two years of my college were online due to covid 19. The opportunities are ample to end up in a good company if you work hard, almost everyone gets placed through companies for core subjects, but good IT companies like Adobe, Oracle, and Lexmark do visit the campus. If you are not getting any good NIT or JU you can consider this college.

Institute of Engineering and Management, Kolkata offers undergraduate and postgraduate programs in different fields like BCA, B. Tech., and BBA. The engineering courses are in the field of Electrical, Electronics and Communication, Mechanical, Civil, Computer Science, and Information Technology. The MBA includes Marketing, Finance, Human Resource Management, and Operations Management. Though I will not recommend doing MBA from here as the placement track record for MBA is not good. The Computer Applications courses offer specializations in Computer Science, Information Technology, and Master of Computer Applications.

IEM Kolkata has a qualified faculty. But, it is a little difficult to understand the accent as some are from North India and some are from South India, but eventually, you will get accustomed. See everywhere you won’t find all are good or bad, it is a mix so you have to find the right one whom you can follow for best. Honestly, I feel it's better to focus on making the student understand in simple language rather than pushing them to do research papers and stuff like that before they understand the basics.

Considering tier 2 college placements are better as compared to peer colleges, you will get enough opportunity to land a job in an MNC or a good IT company of repute. I think the overall average package would be 5 - 6 LPA and the median package would be around 4 - 4.5 LPA. If you are considering core engineering like Mechanical and Electrical as your specialisation you will not get many opportunities.

The hostel is kind of average. The girls' hostel is better but for boys, I would recommend living outside in a rented flat or a PG is a much better option as ample flats are available in the area.

Infrastructure for the classroom and lab is good though if you consider playing games like Cricket or Football, you won't get such a sprawling ground as the college is situated in heart of salt lake city. Though you have a basketball court, a cricket practice net, a badminton ground, an activity room for yoga, indoor games, and free equipment for gymming.

This college is ragging-free and quite disciplined. Overall you would make good friends and it's good, you can enjoy yourself a lot here. There are various clubs and societies in which you can join and explore your hobbies. Extracurricular activities are ample and the yearly tech fests are good too. The college also provides ample opportunities for students to develop their skills and interests through various clubs and societies. And the college regularly conducts alumni meetings in different cities so that we remain connected and call ourselves our alma mater.
