Keshav Mahavidyalaya BMS Review By Sheetij Aggarwal

BMS (erstwhile BBS) is one of the best undergraduate professional courses in Management that was introduced by the University of Delhi (DU) in 1987. Keshav Mahavidyalaya (KMV) has been teaching this course since 2007 and is considered to be the 2nd best college in DU for BMS after SSCBS (Shaheed Sukhdev College of Business Studies, University of Delhi). The course is currently offered under the aegis of Faculty of Applied Social Sciences and Humanities (FASSH), South Campus, Delhi University and was earlier under the aegis of Faculty of Management Studies (FMS), University of Delhi which is considered to be amongst the Top 10 B – schools of India for MBA. The Dean of FMS was invited every year to the college as the chief guest for the Annual Flagship Business Fest of Keshav Mahavidyalaya - Cognizance. The College was established in 1994 and has been accredited with A grade by NAAC and was also felicitated with NIRF Rank 15 in 2017.

I have completed my MBA from IIM Lucknow which is considered to be the 4th best B school in India for MBA and I can say very confidently that whatever I learnt in BMS at Keshav Mahavidyalaya, it helped me a lot in my academics at IIM Lucknow. Almost every course which I studied at IIM Lucknow was already taught in BMS and it was taught in much more comprehensive manner since we have a semester system which gives 6 months in depth knowledge of the subject whereas at IIM Lucknow we follow a trimester concept and hence the time that we get to study a particular subject is comparatively lesser. Besides, the course structure and curriculum, you get practical exposure to the corporate through case studies, guest lectures, workshops and industrial visits. I can say with utmost confidence that BMS benefitted me a lot in my MBA as well as in my CFA Level 1 and CFA Level 2. The admissions used to happen through DU JAT with on the basis of class 12th marks and PI and GD.

The faculty at Keshav Mahavidyalaya is extremely skilled and dedicated. Not only they are experts in their domains and highly qualified, they are also very cooperative and understanding and are always ready to help you beyond the classrooms as well. I personally have learnt a lot from them. Apart from them, the BMS Department faculty has a CA who teaches all the finance courses at the college along with the faculty that teaches Financial Management, Financial Accounting, Investment Analysis and Portfolio Management, Business Analysis and Valuation, Financial Derivatives, and Financial Markets. There are well qualified teachers that teach subjects like Marketing, IT, Strategy and HR, Organisational Behavior, Fundamentals of Management, Business Policy & Strategy, HRM, Consumer Behavior, etc. The case discussions during the classes add more meaningful insights to the subject and help students learn and understand better. All the faculty members are highly qualified as everyone either has completed a PhD or an MBA / M.Com.

The Placement Cell is very active and constantly helps the students throughout the year by organising several activities ranging from CV making and reviews, guest lectures, pre-placement talks, and alumni sessions. The students of the placement cell work in close coordination with the convener of the placement cell. Some of the key recruiters of the campus are AT Kearney, S & P Global, DE Shaw, TresVista, Oxane Partners, Travclan, etc. Many of the students have also pursued higher education post completing BMS from KMV and took admissions in the prestigious B – schools of the country like IIM Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Calcutta, Lucknow, Kozhikode, Indore, ISB Hyderabad, FMS, SP Jain, MDI Gurgaon, etc.

The College has a hostel built in an area of 2 acres but it is only for girls. The Hostel has all the basic facilities which include Gymnasium, Reading Room, Wi-Fi Connectivity, LCD TV, Refrigerator, Microwave, Iron, Sanitary Napkin Vending Machine, etc. Medical services and laundry services are provided to the residents for their healthy and comfortable stay.

Keshav Mahavidyalaya has an excellent infrastructure. It has all the necessary areas such as Amphitheatre, Auditorium, Canteen, Girls’ Hostel, Library, Laboratories (Physics, Chemistry, Computer, Psychology and BMS), Seminar hall, Classrooms and Lecture Theatres along with all the necessary facilities for gym and sports like special room for chess, carom, table tennis, and a huge ground for playing cricket and football along with courts for volleyball, badminton, lawn tennis, and basket ball.

The campus life is quite happening despite being an off campus college. It is located in Pitampura and NSP is the closest spot. Every course has its own festival and throughout the year some activities are happening in the college. The college's Rotaract Club and NSS are super active. There are several societies for student activities like Advaita (Dance), Anhad (Music), Vagmita (Debate & Poetry), Nrityaang (Indian Dance), Naksh (Fashion), Maniera (Fine Arts), Illuminati (Photography), Shades (Dramatics), and Spicmacay. Apart from these 9 societies, we also have several academic clubs and committees like Nivesh (Finance & Investment Cell) - which was co-founded by me and my batch mates and Prakriti (Environment Cell). On the BMS department level, there are other cells like Sarvagya (Quizzing cell), Mark-e-pedia (Marketing Cell) and Inceptum (Entrepreneurship Cell). KMV also has its own student union KMVSU which is affiliated to DUSU.
