Kalyani Government Engineering College is best engineering college in Nadia, West Bengal. It is affiliated to MAKAUT and approved by AICTE. KGEC is accredited by National Board of Accreditation (NBA). This institution ranked 99 among top hundred engineering colleges in India. As per survey by The Telegraph KGEC ranked 2nd in top engineering colleges admits through WBJEE.

Any student can get admission in this college through WBJEE in B.Tech courses, for lateral entry through Joint Entrance Examination for Lateral Entry (JELET), through GATE in M.Tech courses & through JECA in MCA courses. As this is a government institution, so there is no management quota facility for admission in any courses.

I am doing my B.Tech in CSE. I choose it because as in 10+2 I had Computer Science, & this is the subject I really interested in. In KGEC, the placement in Computer Science and Engineering is quite good rather than other branches. One has to hold a good entrance rank for joining CSE department. There is a good infrastructure in teaching as well as in learning in CSE department, teachers are so co-operative with students. Teachers use projectors in college for more understanding purpose.

In Kalyani Government Engineering College there are many student associations like Linux Users Group, Computer Society of India, Code Chef Student Chapter etc. Almost 85-90% students get placements in various companies with a good average salary per annum. Each student can apply for scholarships like Jindal, NSC, Birla Foundation, SVCM etc. if they are eligible. Also, for the students who belong to financially not stable families can apply for reducing their tuition fees by submitting their original documents properly. Toppers are also rewarded with prizes, even many times they get stipend from many organisations.

Faculties of this college are very knowledgeable as well as so helpful. Most of the teachers have already completed their M.Tech & PhD from different reputed colleges of IIT & NIT. In Computer Science and Engineering, there are almost 7 teachers for this course & total about 57 teachers in this institution. The faculties have more than 10 years’ experience in this field.

Though this institution is under government, but it follows MAKAUT. That's why the syllabus is well designed for only the semester exams but not for other competitive exams. But the teachers are so friendly with their students and help them in their project work or research work & also in GATE preparation. The industrial exposure is not enough for students, for that they apply for internships from many companies.

If I talk about training & placement cell of this college, it has a consistency of good placement being a govt. engineering college. About 80% students get placed each year. The top companies visiting for placement are TCS, Cognizant, Infosys, Hitachi, Woods, Go speedy go, HPL etc. Highest package provided is almost Rs. 10 LPA and the lowest is about Rs. 3.3 LPA.

In CSE branch, almost 85-90% students got placed from college. The main recruiter in KGEC is TCS, but other companies also recruit a good percentage of students. Many students apply for doing an internship if they are selected, they get a good stipend. The Training & Placement cell is very active so that students get internships, resources etc. Many students go for higher studies in abroad. It depends on students if they have interest to join the internships from Microsoft or Google.

Kalyani Government Engineering College has 1 junior hostel, 3 senior hostels, 1 M.Tech hostel & a ladies hostel. Boys and girls’ hostels are separated. Every room has 3-4 students beds along with 2 fans, tube lights. In all the hostels they become families after few years. There is no ragging problem and seniors are just like elder brothers & they are very helpful. There are many PGs available in the city though. But they have to face a lot of difficulties like food problem, or study material problem. They have to take their own Wi-Fi. Overall, they have to bear more expenses than a hosteller.

So, according to me, hostel life is far better than a PG life, as college life is incomplete without hostel. Students have to pay Rs. 2,500/- per month with a security deposit of Rs. 9,000/-. Hostel food quality is also not bad; many varieties are there in food items. The food quality is better within that price. In first year hostel food quality is not so much as our expectation, but in the canteen, the food quality is good enough. Some facilities are good like in every hostel; there is a separate canteen for buying fast foods. Security is also available in hostels. There is good Wi-Fi connection with a high-speed internet and separate TV rooms are also available.

Kalyani Government Engineering College has very nice campus. This college has total area of 75 Acres. It has a central library. College campus has 6 hostels, sufficient experiment laboratories. Classrooms are not digital fully, but it is good. There is a separate room for indoor games also like table tennis, carom. Along with the sports like cricket, football, robotic, E-cell, photography clubs are also active.

A huge sports ground is also available in college and the medical facility is like the top medical hospital is also available very near the college campus. Kalyani AIMS & Kalyani town hospital is very near to our college. So, there is no problem of medical emergencies. According to my realization, all the facilities are not so good, but students are comfortable. There is a good Wi-Fi connection in college. The first-year classes are taken in the academic building which is better than other buildings. For each branch, there are separate classes in the college.

The infrastructure of college is very well developed. KGEC is located in the Kalyani University campus. This campus is very near about Ghoshpara station. There are well equipped labs, good classrooms along with a central library. The library has a great collection of books. Our library is totally automated. It contains e-books, e-journals, DVDs, OPAC (Online Public Access Catalog), CWIS e-databases. There is a special conference room with an active learning environment. The Students' Union conducts all types of tournament in the college.

The annual cricket tournament, football tournament, the annual Inter-Department Tournament, badminton tournament is conducting every year in winter season. Actually, in winter literally there is a sporty weather in college. Boys and girls both participate in the sports as well as in cultural events equally. Mostly the seniors organize the sports events. A lot of cultural clubs are also so active in the college like RIYAZ (music club), ELYSIUM (dance club), SHUTTERBUG (photography cum design club), SPORTRIX (sports club). Except this, along with fest, debates, seminars, quizzes and exhibitions the campus life is so colorful in KGEC. Some tech fests, college fests are being organised in parallel events & students also actively participate in all these. Espektro is one of the largest events in the college continues for almost a week. Students are waiting the whole year for these seven days. In this event, from Bengal or from outside many popular artists visit here. Many band artists like Fossils come here and make the campus environment more enjoyable.
