Vidyasagar University M.A Review By Ankita Barik

Outside of main Midnapore Town, Vidyasagar University has a fresh atmosphere. No problem of noise and disturbance in the campus. Being a rural University this university is still growing and the administration and faculties are trying their level best to create better opportunities for students. NAAC has graded it as a B grade University.

Admission is processed by entrance exam. The process of getting exam results to taking admission is hold online. University has a larger group to work for university and to manage the systems. University has separate buildings for administration; doubt clear, PG secretary office, and UG offices. They are efficient and helpful. University has Internal complaint cell where students can complaint about any problem they are facing in the campus. Vidyasagar University has two autonomous colleges under, one is Midnapore College and another is Raja Narendralal Khan Women's College. Almost five P. G. Colleges are affiliated with university. University runs with modernised syllabus suggested by UGC. University has certain problems like transport and some dept has lack in their faculties too. University is trying to recruit more faculties. Thou University have its own bus to help students and faculties in transport, other obstacles will be overcome with time.

I joined the master degree course in English. I was a student of English literature in my ug too and determined myself to master over the subject. I appeared in the entrance examination and cracked it. I took the advantage of home university and got admission here. I knew about the Department and faculty, how much they are helpful. To appear in entrance examination student need a minimum number of 40%, if he/ she cracked it then admission is confirmed. It's a pen paper taste, the question is multiple choice type and has negative marking too. I joined the course with an aim of higher study and later researches.

As a rural University it helps me to grow more. Yes, no doubt Dept of English of Vidyasagar University has a separate royalty in its education. The syllabus is research centric and faculties help us to think beyond syllabus. They always guide us not only for the syllabus but for further UGC NET, and PhD. Master Degree in English is not a career oriented course, thou it has separate job opportunities. Most of the students of the course aim over researches and teaching. Though if you have a good command over English language you can write good articles reviews scripts. You may also have a good career if you write good stories film-scripts etc.The world is getting digital and a good command over global language will provide different types of job facilities.

Currently our dept has 5 teachers after Debasis Bandopadhyay resigned. Very soon associate professor or professor will be recruited here. We have two associate and three assistant professors. Three of them have done their PhD and engaged with several researches. Two junior assistant professors are doing their PhD. Dept has Dalit survey special professor Indranil Acharya.

Other departments are also equipped with faculty library and laboratory. Some departments have not that much exposure and faculty to lead a department well. University is trying to solve the problems as early as possible. Our dept has language lab to develop the skill of talking fluently in foreign language.

Several trainings happen here to promote the skills of the students. Students are engaged in several seminars and webinars and they are engaged in sever researches to widen their area of knowledge. Every year a good number of students from Vidyasagar University crack NTA NET/ SET. University has its placement cell where many students get chance. University has a scheme of "Earn while You Learn" which help many of the students.

University has both girls and boys hostel, and both the hostels are in different campus. The girls hostel closes the gate on 7 pm to secure the students here. Though the male students can move anytime anywhere and we shouldn't support this kind of discrimination in law. University hostels provide quality food enough space to stay, electricity and purified water.

Two times meal is provided to the students if students want they can cook Tiffin but time limits 30 minutes only. Security in girls hostel is great and fine. But think security of boys’ hostel needs to be strict more. Per year hostel fees are very nominal.

Total area of university is 182.75 acres, main campus is 103.75, and other is in hostel campus. Classrooms are not only well-lighted and airy but are maintained too. Central library has vintage as well as modern books. Central library provides many references and lots of expensive books which we cannot buy every time. Science block has separate libraries and they use it regularly for practical though it needs more modification. Departments of English has language lab too.

We have our auditorium as "Swami Vivekananda Prekhya Griho" and a huge play-ground. Campus has medical store, Xerox and print centre, cafeteria, ATM everything. Everyday a doctor remain present in the campus, even a psychology-treatment center is also in the campus to relax students.

The campus is very green and lively. Except the path and buildings the entire campus is covered with grasses. Flower bushes and trees are cut in shapes except there are a lot of flower plants. Special in winter and spring the entire campus becomes colorful And dressed in beautiful colors. This regional University is known for cultural activity.

Students welcome any occasion or farewell too with several cultural activities. The grand University fresher's is held with gorgeous functions of several artists. Even every dept has their separate functions, several cultural activities too. The Saraswati puja held every year with great joy and happiness.
