M.P. Shah Government Medical College MBBS Review By Shreyansh Rakhecha

The college did amaze me when I saw the campus. The building which holds our classes looks like business building as it’s a high rise building with 8 floors. The classrooms reminded me of some foreign universities as they are simply outstanding. I got the college achieving a good rank in the NEET. Though this wasn’t my first choice college but I am happy with the teachers and facilities that are on board at the campus. Though it’s early but have seen every inch of the college and there are 2 separate buildings for the 1st year and 2nd year students. This is good as I am scare of seniors though they are helpful. Seniors play a huge role in medical studies and I am glad that we have the best of seniors.

There are in all 19 sub professors who will be teaching us and thus far we are introduced only to three. The study time takes all that we have as I believe we will have to work out of our skins to finally become a doctor. I want to go home in the breaks and tell the teachers who told me once you clear the NEET, you have become doctors. Mind you studies are too tough but always knew this so ready for the challenge. As of now more focus is on theory and waiting once the practical takes over. In all academic wise the college has maintained dignity and that is why it is among the top rated medical college in the country.

To be honest don’t know the names of entire faculty yet but will admit that they are all good. Takes great care of the students and on some days feels like a motivation classes are going on. It is important though as sometimes it becomes tough to make ourselves understand that still an hour to go or couple of hours to go before we can finally go and have some rest. The faculty has been nice throughout is what the feedback I have got from the seniors and hope we get to know our faculty more.

From the information that I have collected so far, students have told me a passed out student from this college gets a minimum of Rs. 15-18 lakhs package. The numbers are staggering and why not, as we put in hard yards to become a doctor. Doctor’s profession is not easy and specialists are in demand. Therefore most students rather than opting for placements go for higher studies. However, if I get Rs. 18-20 lakhs package, I will accept it without thinking twice.

There are 15 hostel buildings out of which 2 are girls hostel and rest 13 boys hostel. Hostels are also divided year wise and this is good as our building only have 1st year students. When we arrived hostel had empty rooms and we had to fill it with our own stuffs. From bed to cupboards, we had to buy them all. The building is old but has maintained hygiene. Any form of drug or anything is strictly prohibited and this is the best part as surprise checking can happen at any point in time. Hostel rooms are allotted on triple sharing basis and we all from Surat. Thus far hostel is one place which serves as our hiding space because after a long hop at the college, hostel is our rescue spot.

I was surprised when I actually saw the college building. At first, I thought this must be a hospital or some business building .When I actually came to know that this is college building I was surprised. High-tech 8 floor buildings and each floor has something for the students. Like labs on the 5h floor, library on the 3rd. The classrooms are same as you must have seen in movies. I will say far better than any private college for that matter. Still I have seen people complaining but I don’t know for what. The only complain which I am sure my friends have also must addressed is lack of sports and gym facilities. If you go to a doctor the first thing they advise is exercise. However there’s nothing of that sort in the college. I hope management reads my article and try to address this issue. Apart from that everything is top-class as we have 25+ mess to choose from for our meals. Library has all the books one can ask for. The parking facility and roads inside the campus are neatly built. Thus, infra is a-one if I could say that.

The first 6 months in a medical college can be scary and same is the case with our college. The seniors have advised us a list of things to do. If we fail, we are gone. Say ‘Kem Cho’ with senior’s name and have pen in the pocket always is compulsory for juniors. Well in a way it is ragging but this will bring discipline as well. This is what our seniors and faculty members have taught us and I have made my peace with that. Thus, campus life is good as most of the time is spend in classrooms only.
