M.P. Shah Government Medical College MBBS Review By Abhishek Bagree

With a NEET score of 22,000, I was left with no choice but to take admission here. From Surat to Jamnagar was not ideal but after spending nearly 2 months in the college, I can say I am glad I am here. Where on this planet can you find a better faculty than this? If seniors are like the way what I have seen in the college, I am glad I am here. The campus is so beautiful and has than x-factor about it. It may be ranked the lowest among the 6 medical colleges of Gujarat but don’t know what extra the 1st ranked college has. The classrooms, teachers, infrastructure all being top-notch and also the environment at the campus being too extravagant, I don’t think I could have asked for more. Yes there are early days but in roads for more without a doubt.

The first class was on the first day of the New Year and if it is said that what you do on the 1st day of the year, you will do that for the rest of the year. I think we will have to study and study for the next 5 years. No one in the campus has even time for himself/herself as can never get above studies. A couple of hours in the evening is all that we are left with. Classes from morning to evening and have to study for at least 3-4 hours to catch up with what being taught. I knew that medical studies are one of the toughest and after enrolling in this college I am certain about it. If C.A., or M.B.A. students think their course is the toughest then let me be clear you are nowhere close to us. Glad that practical are at least fun sessions and happy that they consume the afternoon sessions. Since I have chosen study medical I will have to make peace with it at the earliest.

Faculty is quiet knowledgeable and in the first few classes told us that 1st year is tough and things will be easy post that. When I asked the same to seniors they said our faculty knows it well how to keep oneself motivated. I couldn’t stop laughing and since then have built a huge respect for the faculty members. The professors are so cool and normally you don’t attach such things with doctors but they are.

I don’t think that placement is even on my mind at this point of time. Having said that, I did inquire about placements before coming to this college and have taught that all the students who seeks placement. All are placed in some good hospitals as an assistant doctor and students passed out from this college have scaled highs after highs in years to come. Thus, placement with this college has never been an issue and will never be an issue.

There are quite a few hostel wings and all with same features, i.e. no features. An empty room with walls was what we were provided and told that you will have to get your stuff by your own. With little or should I say no fees kind of amount they charge, we can’t expect anything more. The rooms are given on triple sharing and the only good thing about the room is that they are spacious enough. Thus, we all three have our own space and without disturbing each other we can do our things. The hostel is clean and well-maintained and as medical students we don’t have a choice but to stay in the hostel.

This is one of the oldest colleges but the 1st and 2nd year students building is 8-storied high-tech building. The hospital building is good but apart from that rest all buildings do need renovation. The library is great but other than that nothing great. The labs are equipped but again the walls look old. Fortunately, classrooms are great. Latest and modern facilities and classrooms are huge as well. The biggest disadvantage is no playground in the college. I wish there was one as there’s nothing in the campus to unwind other than library. There are n number of mess in the college and that has occupied the maximum space. I wish they think of having a playground in and around the campus.

Just 2 months at the campus and feels like ages since I have been here. Made some great friends and interacting with teachers has infused confidence in us. Ragging was done during early days and now juniors and seniors mingle really well. We are not allowed to wear jeans for the next 3 months and I am OK with that if that is being called paying respect to seniors. Have heard that college also organizes a fest and I hope the pandemic ends soon and have something that can help me distract from studies for a while. In a nutshell, the campus life is good and I now exciting times will be soon in our favor.
