M.P. Shah Government Medical College MBBS Review By Dipen Rajpara

The college is one of the 6 government medical colleges in Gujarat and ranks among the top most medical colleges in the country. The college is well built and as soon as you enter you will feel proud as I definitely did. As soon as I entered I actually tapped myself that my hard work for the past 3-4 years have landed me here. Though I am relatively new but have understood how the college functions and how I have to bide my next 5 years here. The college is peaceful as students interact only during the breaks and one can see the seriousness with which students study here. I believe the college support staff should be recognized for the same for keeping things simple.

Our session started from January and from day one we were told that you have entered a course which will teach you human values as you are in for human service. That itself motivated me and after being in the college for one and a half months, I can sense that to survive here we will have to be punctual at the classes and work equally hard after coming back as well. The classes start at 8 am and lasts till 5 pm. Yes there are 2 breaks in between but still have to keep myself focused in order to survive. When the first practical session was announced I was so excited as I couldn’t wait to see the labs. As soon as I saw, I was like oh Jesus this looks like a movie to me. The labs are so well organized and have nearly 20 labs in the campus. Yet to visit them all but can wait to see them all.

The studies as I mentioned are tough but the teachers are easy going. They have kept it simple and made sure that students never feel pressurised. Therefore even though the classes are long, the faculty members make sure that they get to know students in between as 5 years is a long time. The faculty what I have seen till now is quite intimidating. Yes, you can approach them and they are always up for helping students out but still take courage to at least go and stand in front of them. I believe it will change with time but early experiences are this only. All the faculty are great and possess a great knowledge and know what it takes to bring the best out of us.

Well medical college and think about the placements is like having money in the bank and thinking of where to spend. All the students who pass out from our college do have in-hand placements but what I have seen is more than half of the students opt for further studies and same is what I have planned for myself. Still a long way to go and will wait to see how things pan out.

There are separate boys and girls hostel wings. We were given a simple room and had to bring beds and cupboards by our own. The room is simple as have one fan and an attached bathroom. Have heard a lot about the private hostel rooms. No it is nowhere close to it but we are happy with what we have got.

The college is so beautiful and the layout is something that must have taken the best mind people to plan. The building is an 8 storey building in which 1st and 2nd year classes takes place. The hospital building is at the center and admin departments are behind that. There are some 18-20 buildings including admin, library, canteen, and hostel buildings. The best part is the mess as there are nearly 20+ mess which are run by students. You can pick and choose the one you want as some of them are divided by regions. The mess for which I have opt in serves very good food and in 2 months time apart from Sundays I have never gone out for meals. There’s a huge library, a playground, and well maintained buildings. You can feel that this is a government institute but I am happy with all the facilities that are in place here.

As you all would have heard about ragging in medical colleges, it exists here as well. The very second day, we were called by our seniors and were ragged but all in good way. Can’t mention every bit of it but nothing harsh as the seniors are easy going and the one who are always ready for help. They guided me when I came to the college and even today are up for help. The campus life so far is room to college to mess. Not seen much of it till now but really happy with the way things have panned out in these 2 months. I know I will have the best time at the college.
