Poona College of Pharmacy (PCP) was established in 1981 by Bharati Vidyapeeth, a deemed to be university. The Pharmacy College is accredited by NAAC with ‘A’ grade and by NBA.
Vision: The vision of PCP is to be recognised as a premier pharmacy institution which aims to achieve excellence in education, research, innovation, and leadership.
Mission: To be a centre of excellence in the field of pharmacy by contributing to a collaborative ecosystem in healthcare. The college has a mission to produce competent pharmacists who can cater to the need of academics and research.
The programs offered at the pharmacy college include UG Programs, PG Programs, and Research Programs. The departments are: Pharmaceutics, Pharmacology, Pharmacognosy, Pharmacy Practice, Pharmaceutical Chemistry, and Pharmaceutical Biotechnology.
The programs offered are Bachelor of Pharmacy (B.Pharm), Master of Pharmacy (M.Pharm), Pharm.D and Ph.D. The admissions in this college are as per the marks obtained in the entrance test conducted by the university. The Poona College of Pharmacy was set up in Pune in the year 1981 to cater to the overwhelming demand for pharmaceutical professionals. The originator of Bharati Vidyapeeth, Dr. Patangrao Kadam took cognizance of the fact that Pune did not have any pharmacy institution. Thus the overwhelming need to establish a college that would focus on teaching pharmacy led to the establishment of the Poona College of Pharmacy.
Therefore the Poona College of Pharmacy occupies a pride of place for being the first pharmacy institute in the Pune metropolis. Over the years, PCP has gradually built and cemented its reputation as being one of the premier institutes for pharmacy training. The institute offers undergraduate, postgraduate and diploma programs in a pharmacy approved by Pharmacy Council of India (PCI), AICTE, and UGC.
Formerly, PCP was an affiliate of the University of Pune but now the institution is affiliated to Bharati Vidyapeeth, a Deemed to be University. Additionally, the University of Pune did not have a distinct faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences. Erstwhile principal and vice-chancellor of Bharati Vidyapeeth took the initiative of establishing a separate faculty dedicated to Pharmaceutical Sciences.
PCP is one of the select institutions in the country to have been awarded the ‘A’ grade by NAAC and NBA. The Poona College of Pharmacy also happens to be an ISO-9001-2008 certified institution. The institution continues to receive grants from key funding bodies such as DRDO, DBT, DST, UGC, and AICTE, thanks to its talented faculty pool, and state-of-the-art infrastructure.
PCP’s vision is to transform into an institution delivering industry-oriented and value-based pharmacy education. And the pharmacy college’s mission is to develop proficient and skilled pharmacists who can fulfill the needs of academia, research, and industry and serve the society. The institution also wishes to excel as an excellent center for research and learning in the pharmaceutical sciences field.
The library that was refurbished recently, surely occupies a pride of place on the college campus. The pharmacy college library now houses well-furnished, ventilated, and illuminated reading lobby.
