Vellore Institute of Technology, popularly known as VIT, is a reputed and well-established private (deemed University) in Chennai. VIT has been offering undergraduate, postgraduate, and integrated programs in arts, law, technology, engineering, management, and applied sciences for more than 3 decades. The main campus of VIT is situated in Vellore, in the suburbs, in an area covering more than 250 acres.
The University also has campuses in Amravati (Andhra Pradesh) and Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh), besides the one in Chennai. The Chennai campus lies on the road that connects Vandalur with Kelambakkam, on the outskirts of Chennai in Tamil Nadu. The Chennai chapter offers 8 undergraduate courses, 12 postgraduate courses, and 3 research programs.
All programs of the higher education institute are recognized by UGC and the engineering programs are accredited by ABET (USA) and IET (UK). NAAC awarded grade ‘A’ accreditation to the University in 2015. VIT also has won several awards since its inception, including the “FICCI Best University of the Year 2016” in the engineering category.
As per a survey carried out by MHRD (Ministry of Human Resources Development), Govt. of India, VIT ranked 16th amongst all engineering institutions in India in 2018.
Brief about VIT Chennai
Vellore Institute of Technology was set up in the year 1984 by Dr. G. Viswanathan, and was called Vellore Engineering College initially. VIT’s Chennai campus has seven schools of study that offers a wide variety of programs pertaining to different disciplines including management, technology, and law. Depending on the academic program a student is willing to pursue, he or she is assigned to the specific school of study overseeing admissions for that particular course.
VIT has partnerships with numerous foreign colleges and universities for facilitating student exchange programs and overseas tours. The sprawling, eco-friendly University campus boasts of full-scale infrastructure that goes a long way in furthering world-class education.
