These are Department of Civil Engineering, Department of Electrical Engineering, Department of Mechanical Engineering, Department of Mathematics, Department of Computer Science and Engineering, Department of Humanities, Social Sciences, and Management, Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering, Department of Metallurgical and Materials Engineering, Department of Production and Industrial Engineering, Department of Physics, Department of Chemistry, and Department of Mathematics.

NIT assists students financially by awarding them scholarships. Students get either monetary assistance or fee concession (tuition / hostel / maintenance allowance, etc.) through scholarships. There are different eligibility criteria for different scholarships, for instance, students who belong to SC / ST / OBC / EWS / BPL category, physically disabled students, meritorious students, etc.

NIT has a Training and Placement Cell for career guidance and placements of students. Institute has career development clubs which emphasises on personality development of students. It constitutes a soft skill club, analytical and consulting club.
