CLAT 2026: Registration (Started), Exam Date, Eligibility, Syllabus, and More

The official notification for the CLAT 2026 has been released on 20^th July 2025. Aspirants will be able to register themselves for the entrance test from 1^st August 2025 onwards. The CLAT registration 2026 will end on 31^st October 2025. The CLAT 2026 exam date is 7^th December 2025 & the results will probably be announced on 10^th December 2025.

The Common Law Admission Test, popularly known as CLAT, is conducted once a year by the Consortium of National Law Universities (NLUs) for admissions in the UG & PG Law programs.

The National Level Common Law Admission Test (CLAT) is held by the Consortium of NLUs for offering admissions in the 5-year Integrated LL.B (B.A.LL.B / BBA.LL.B / B.Com.LL.B / BSW.LL.B / B.Sc.LL.B) and LL.M programs. Students qualifying the entrance test will be eligible for getting admission in the 26 participating National Law Universities, and 33 Private Law Colleges / Institutes / Universities which have signed MOUs with the NLU.

The entrance exam will be held via Offline Optical Mark Recognition (OMR) based mode for a duration of 120 minutes. Aspiring candidates can register themselves only through online mode on the official website of the conducting body.

Aspirants must make certain that they satisfy the requisite eligibility conditions before they proceed with the registration process. The CLAT Registration 2026 can be done online at ‘consortiumofnlus.ac.in’ from 1^st August 2025 onwards till 31^st October 2025 followed by filling-in of the application form. The correction window is likely to open in November 2025.

The CLAT 2026 exam fee for the students of the General / OBC / NRI categories is Rs. 4000/- & Rs. 3500/- for the SC / ST / PwD / BPL categories. Students can pay the registration fee via online modes of payment (exclusive of bank transaction charges), which is non-adjustable & non-refundable.

Note: Students who have submitted incomplete forms will be considered ineligible. Also, if applicants have submitted more than 1 application form then in such case, the latter application form will be considered and the fee for the previous one will not be refunded.

As per the CLAT Exam Pattern 2026, the entrance test will be conducted via offline Optical Mark Recognition (OMR) based mode wherein 120 Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs) will be asked. For CLAT UG, there will be 5 sections namely, English Language, Current affairs including General Knowledge, Legal Reasoning, Logical Reasoning, and Quantitative Techniques with a varied number of questions in each of the sections. However, there will be only 1 section in the CLAT PG exam from different law-related topics. The fields are Constitutional Law, Jurisprudence, Administrative Law, Law of Contract,Torts, Family Law, Criminal Law, Property Law, Company Law, Public International Law, Tax Law, Environmental Law, and Labor & Industrial Law.

Each question of CLAT 2026 carries 1 mark and -0.25 marks shall be deducted for every wrong answer. No negative marking will be done for un-attempted questions.

Note: If more than 1 option is encircled in the OMR sheet then it will be considered as double marking & wrong response for which negative marking will be done.

* A total of 160 minutes will be given to the Persons with Disabilities (PwD) & Specially-Abled Persons (SAP) candidates.

The CLAT 2026 will be conducted across 141 centres in 25 States and 4 Union Territories. Additionally, the conducting body opens the portal for updating the test location a few days after the registration portal closes. If needed, applicants can update their preferred CLAT Exam Centres 2026 online within the stipulated time.

* In case of unforeseen circumstances due to which the test city / centre is cancelled, or insufficient / more number of candidates have opted for an exam centre then, the Convener of CLAT has the authority to cancel & shift the students’ test centre / city.

The Consortium of National Law Universities (conducting body) has laid down certain regulations that the students must follow on the CLAT 2026 exam day. Candidates can go through the below-given points to avoid unusual circumstances:

• The gates of the exam centre will open 1 hour before the commencement of the exam. Students must complete the requisite formalities and get seated in the respective classrooms at least 30 minutes before the exam time.
• Applicants will not be allowed to enter the exam hall 15 minutes after the exam begins. Also, they will not be permitted to leave the classroom till the exam ends.
• Students must carry their Admit Card & a self-attested photograph (if unclear in the hall ticket), original Government ID proof, original Disability Certificate (if applicable), black / blue ball point pen, transparent water bottle & an analogue watch (if required).
• Bringing unauthorised articles such as written papers, mobile phones, smart / digital watches, headphones, and other such electronic devices is strictly prohibited inside the test centre.
• It is mandatory for the appearing candidates to follow all the instructions given by the invigilators / supervisors without any delay or argument.
• Activities like impersonation, talking with the fellow candidates, and other such inappropriate behavior will be considered as criminal offence and may lead to the disqualification of the applicants at fault. Also, penal action can be initiated against them according to the law.
• If there is any error in the Question Booklet like blank / missing / unprinted / misprinted pages, then the students must inform the invigilator as soon as possible. Also, they can request the invigilator to replace the Question Booklet and provide a new OMR sheet.
• Students must make sure they do not mark & scribble anything in the question paper other than the rough papers. Sheets will be attached in the question papers for rough work and no separate sheet will be provided for the same.
• Candidates should not damage / fold / crumple / tear / scribble the OMR sheet or else, the OMR will be invalidated. Also, the students will be disqualified.
• If applicants are suffering from any sickness then, they are allowed to carry the respective medicines along with them.

Solving the CLAT Previous Year Question Papers is considered as one of the most effective preparation strategies to enhance the scope of securing excellent marks in the entrance test. The CLAT Result 2026 will tentatively be announced on 10^th December 2025 on the official website i.e., ‘consortiumofnlus.ac.in’. Students can check & download their CLAT 2026 scorecards by logging into their respective accounts or by using their Application / Admit Card Number & Date of Birth.

In case 2 or more candidates obtain equal marks in the CLAT 2026 exam then the following strategy will be implemented to break the tie in the order of preference:

CLAT UG:

The procedure for resolving the tie for CLAT UG is mentioned below:

• The 1^st preference will be given to those who have secured higher marks in the Legal Aptitude section.
• After this, priority will be given to those who are older in age.
• If the tie still continues, then the tie will be broken based on the computerised draw of lots.

CLAT PG:

For CLAT PG, the tie will be first resolved on the basis of age, i.e., the older applicant (based on date of birth) will be ranked higher. If the tie remains persistent, then a computerised draw of lots will be utilised to determine the ranks of the students.

The National Level CLAT 2026 is held for offering admission to the qualifying students in the 5-year Integrated LL.B (BBA.LL.B, B.A.LL.B, B.Com.LL.B, BSW.LL.B, and B.Sc.LL.B) & LL.M courses. There are around 26 National Law Universities in India that offer admission in the aforementioned programs based on the CLAT scores.
