Amrita School of Engineering, Bengaluru is one of the 5 Campuses of Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham. It is situated off the Sarjapura Road in Kasavanahalli. Two schools are run here, that comprise of twelve programs of which five are undergraduate, five are graduate, one is International and one is doctoral. The University holds an 'A' grade certified by 'NAAC' and also falls under the 'A' grade category among the other universities according to the Ministry of Human Resource Development. The campus of first over 200 seats to undergraduate and postgraduate students in various fields like engineering, nanotechnology, management, arts and sciences etc. There is an annual online exam taken by the university as criteria for admission. The campus has a calm and spiritual atmosphere.

Among the diverse courses offered by the campus, I opted for Electronics and Instrumentation Engineering. The eligibility of a student depends on the score he/she scores in the online test taken by the university. You may also get scholarship for a good score and would be allowed to choose your branch. The online entrance exam is similar to State CET and JEE exams. The syllabus is same as the syllabus that you study in 11th and 12th grades. I joined EIE because I was really interested in the core subjects. It is a rare field of engineering that is underrated. All the courses offered by the university are phenomenal and updated regularly. EIE in particular is very much related to automation and design of large scale instruments and sensors. Hence, it is an evergreen field in terms of jobs.

My course has at least 6 subjects per semester, and each subject has one faculty. If it is a lab subject, we have two faculties. Approximately the campus has 4 Departments under the Engineering school which sums up to 100 faculty members. All these faculties have an average experience of 10 years of teaching and most of them hold or are pursuing PhD. They are excellent at delivering the subjects to the students and are very patient. They teach with the perfect pace and make sure everyone is on the same page.

Unlike other colleges, Amrita has a dedicated department called 'Co-operate and Industry Relations' dedicated to placements and tie-ups with companies and universities nationally and internationally. The CIR department helps the students develop necessary skills for placements and prepare you for your interviews. Some top recruiters include Arista, Bosch, Cisco and Tata. The campus has a 90% placement rate with an average salary of Rs. 5 LPA. The highest salary of the 2020 batch was Rs. 50 LPA.

The hostel facilities are provided for both girls and boys. They obviously have separate infrastructures for boys and girls. The girls hostel has 160 rooms and the boys hostel has 400 rooms. Each room can accommodate 3-4 students. Per year hostel fees is Rs. 90,000. This includes accommodation and mess bills. The food quality and taste in average. It is mostly south Indian cuisine that is served. The security is very strict. Any outing from the hostel or campus is only after the management has talked to your parents/guardians. The hostel also has facilities like warm water, reading hall, 24 hours internet connection, basketball court, etc.

The campus is spread over 3 Sq km, it has two academic buildings, one guest house, one girls hostel and one boys hostel. It is decently big and spacious. The classrooms are clean and ventilated with proper lighting. The laboratories and workshops are the best part, they provide you good instruments to work with and understand the subject better. There are 3-4 halls/ auditoriums for cultural and technical activities. There are 4 computer labs. The cafeteria is a good hangout space, the food still being average. There are two big grounds for various sport activities, including courts for basketball and badminton. There is one medical clinic in the campus.

I would say the overall campus life is good. Since the campus has cultural and technical activities going on almost every day in the campus there is a good balance between academics and fun. There are 40+ clubs of various niches. There are two annual fests that are organized in the campus that are lively and entertaining. Students get a great opportunity to nurture their hobbies like singing, dancing, comedy, coding, sports, math, Rangoli etc. through various club activities.
