MITSOM College BBA Review By Pradip Lakhani

The rules and regulations at MITSOM are stricter than schools. You aren’t allowed to wear red or black and that’s a condition that left half my wardrobe worthless. Never mind but then we were made to sit at the guest lectures compulsorily, if we somehow failed we were threatened that for next one week our attendance won’t be market or will get less in internals. One thing that made me love with the institute is its sprawling campus. As they say never book a judge by its cover, MITSOM has one building for BBA, BCA, MBA, and MCA. Many a times it happened that labs or classes became unavailable due to this. My name was mostly up there in the defaulters list and had to face the ramification of it. I thought I will get away as I volunteered for various events by working hard in the sun and obviously free of cost. I am not in favor of students defaulting but during the lecture if you yourself have engaged us in activities how can one mark student absent then?

The ventilated and well-lit classrooms set the template for studies and the modern classroom was an add-on. I did BBA (IT) and the course was lengthy and therefore the strictness was laid. The only problem here is that we were made to write stupid or worthless assignments that actually no one noticed. We had to do it otherwise some or the other pointers were be laid on us and we will have to consequences for that. The teachers are given unnecessary powers and that has made students be in the pickle and there is no one to listen to their problems.

20 or let’s 30% of the teachers came from some other planets while the others had teaching skills that can be termed as poor. The faculty of important subjects failed to teach us the way they should. After every year, we were given a feedback form to rate all the faculty members on scale of 5. This way I gave my feedback twice but nothing changed that means that those feedback forms must have been thrown in the dustbins because each and every student rated 0 out of 5 for some of the faculty and we still saw them coming again to take the lectures in the next semester.

Most students failed to have a sound base in subjects and all the claims that BBA (IT) students got 100% placement is all bullshit. I passed out 4 years back and unless anything drastically has changed they can claim that the placement is 100%. In our time it wasn’t over 30% and that too jobs of sales officer or clerical jobs in IT companies are what we were offered. The placement cell filled dour choices and also assured that we will have placements but all in vain as the college life many other areas have a grey area in placements as well. The students who got a job were a meagre one and with the kind of reputation that they hold, they should address the issues soon.

The hostel of MIT is common for all MIT courses. Hostel facilities are available for boys and girls. Hostel rooms were spacious and having given the choices in staying with 1/2/3 made it easier and affordable as well. The rooms had a study table and a bed for each student. The washrooms were attached and the washrooms were cleaned daily by the sweepers arranged by college. The hostel has seats reserved for foreign students and Indian students like me have to wait for the merit list. The hostel also has a guest house for visitors and 2 mess out of which one is pure vegetarian. The hostel also has a TV rooms and a common room other than that.

MIT Pune campus is a different town in itself. The campus has 8-10 buildings and all well-maintained. The roads in the campus are better than the roads in Pune. Library fees is taken along with the fees and therefore even though I never felt like going there I did went there 8-10 times every semester. The library if we compare it with the number of students not enough as the reading area couldn’t accommodate over 100-150 students at a time. While the strength of the college is 10 times higher than that. A cafeteria just 100meters from the MITSOM building is available. Inside the MTSOM building also there’s a small canteen that serves tea, coffee, cold drinks and snacks. The computer lab with high speed net for students. One catch here as the University advertises that the entire campus is Wi-Fi enabled which again is not true. The parking even though huge not enough and therefore you see jams can be witnessed outside the campus. Gym and sporting facilities are also available and are really good.

Every while the college conducts events and that helped us experience and explore other opportunities. The college fest is a competition between different colleges of MIT group. The technical setup at the campus is great and so are the other facilities. However the grey areas that the University has are way higher than the rapport that the University has.
