My Campus Life at IIT Kharagpur

Overall Rating
IIT Kharagpur makes you realize that it is a different world in itself, not many facilities or spots outside campus students have found a different way to enjoy in this huge 2100-acre campus. It offers immense opportunity to not only grow professionally but also socially by involving in more than 60 club activities across all the domains, regular seminars, and uncountable competitions. Overall, the lush greenery keeps you fresh. The goodwill and engagement between juniors and seniors is the standout point of this Institute where you not only trust them but can count on them to solve your issues.
 

Academics Rating
I opted this Institute because it was recognised by AICTE. Academic can be rigorous but once you set in the system of this Institute, you find a way to do all the things you aspire to in campus and tackle your studies at the same time. A race for CGPA is there just like any other Institute but here you compete with a huge and talented batch of 1500 plus students from each batch, which is a different feat. It makes you competent enough to get through anything in your life later. Even though some courses may not have real life applications, there is definitely something in it they will teach that you won't forget.
The fees mostly remains consistent throughout the year with approximately Rs. 1,35,000/- per semester and Rs. 2,70,000/- for a year. It is quite decent as it includes everything from tuition, accommodation, food, utilities, etc. The fee varies on the basis of students’ caste. Scholarships are available but from 2nd year onwards.
 

Faculty Rating
Faculty is a variable topic as some of the professors are extremely reachable and good. All of them are very knowledgeable and great at what they do. It's generally taught through slides and blackboard if needed. Every course has different set of people and so people in the classroom varies. Tests are taken regularly too.
 

Placement Rating
Placements being placements are unpredictable and based on luck to some extent too. At the Institute, average package are good. There's a huge CDC or Career development centre that invites many placement companies to the campus.
 

Hostel Rating
The Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur referred its hostels as halls. There is no restriction on timings throughout the campus and boys are allowed to go to any boy’s hall at anytime they want. The number of rooms depends from Hall to Hall. First year students are allotted only one hall and they all are told to stay together for a year. However, living at hostels is the real fun factor.
 

Infrastructure Rating
Infrastructure is little decent. I won't say the it is the best aspect of IIT Kharagpur but it is improving gradually and is going through renovation work. However, the academic section and the buildings where main departments are there and also the main academic complex the infrastructure is very good. Coming to sports infrastructure, I don't think so I was disappointed but it can be improved. The hospital, transport, and security facilities are decent. The library, labs, and all of them are top notch as well. There are many spots where generally people meet and interact.
 

Campus Rating
The campus life is very chill. The seniors are awesome and the Institute crowd is variable but you will find the right people here. From clubs and activities to extracurricular activities, all the things just keeps on going and there will be times when you might not be able to juggle all of things that take palace at the same time. Every year, there are basically two big fests conducted in Institute. The biggest and the strongest part of this Institute that I will say is that there are no restrictions.

    IIT Kharagpur is one of the most renowned academic institutes in India. It has NIRF ranking of 5th in engineering category. It is one among the oldest IITs in India which makes it strong alumni network. The lush greenery campus with fresh air, away from city makes students life excellent.     I was always the topper of my class, but JEE preparation humbled me. But, I dreamt of something and had to achieve that at any cost. I still remember the day when I knew I'll be studying in one of the best Institutions of the country, I was on cloud nine and super excited.     Being from a middle class family I have dreamt about getting into this Institute from Class 11. I didn't get much exposure to Engineering before, so I was very much excited. It is one of the largest campuses having a jungle spread on half of its area. One will not get bored as there many things to do. On every weekend, there are some programs going on at Gymkhana.     I am very happy to have got into IIT KGP. It has got the largest campus among all the IITs; spread around 2200 acres of land. It is one of the top 10 IITs. The course I have chosen here is Industrial and Systems Engineering and it is offered by this Institute alone.... Read Full Review
