Indian Institute of Technology B.Arch Review By Gaurav Giri

IIT Kharagpur is one of the most renowned academic institutes in India. It has NIRF ranking of 5th in engineering category. It is one among the oldest IITs in India which makes it strong alumni network. The lush greenery campus with fresh air, away from city makes students life excellent. I am from IIT Kharagpur and unlike many other IITs, there is no LAN Ban or restriction on data usage and also there is no hostel curfew which is an added bonus.

IIT Kharagpur had wide range of courses. It had 15 B.Tech Programs, MBA, MHRM, LLB, MMST, MCP, M.Sc / M.Tech / MS programs, 35 programs of Dual Degree, B.Arch and Ph.D programs. For UG (undergraduate), student had to clear JEE MAINS and JEE ADVANCE along with 75% aggregate in 10+2. There are 2 exams that are conducted in one semester. 80% attendance is compulsory to sit in the semester’s exam. There are many societies and clubs that are active and conduct variety of events.

At IIT Kharagpur every faculty is well qualified and has good expertise in their respective subjects. They are active researchers in their respective subjects. Some teachers have angry issues. They get angry if a student is having low attendance in class. They will only accept your leave application if you have permission from institutes hospital, BC Roy technology hospital or have any urgent work.

In 2024-25 session, 1st phase of placements were from 1 December to 14 December. In this phase, a student from computer science branch get a highest package of 2.14 CR and 13 students get international offer. If I talk about average package, it is around 17-21 LPA. Top recruiter companies are Apple, Google, Messho, IBM, ICICI Bank, Bank of America, etc.

There are 21 Halls of Residences (16 for boys, 5 for girls) in the campus. The Halls are provided with High speed LAN fir each student, Wi-Fi connection, 24 hour electricity, Water purifiers, Washing Machines, etc. Every day workers came in the hall and cleans bathrooms and corridors. Halls bathroom are well equipped with geyser, clean water, mirror and running tap. Every first year undergraduate student is given Lal Bahadur Shastri Hall of Residence, which is the biggest and modern state of the art hostel. It consists of 3 fans, 3 single-bed, 3 LAN port, 9 Switch boards, 3 cupboards and 1 balcony in each room for 3 students. Every hall has their own mess and cycle stands and cycle repairing shops.

IIT Kharagpur has good and clean campus with well-equipped infrastructure. The central Library of IIT Kharagpur is one of the finest and largest technical libraries in Asia which is accessed by every students of IIT Kharagpur. IIT Kharagpur campus have Tata Sports complex, Mahatma Gandhi hockey ground, Jnan Ghosh Stadium for various sports and games like hockey, cricket, football, Athletics and have full modernized Aquatic center for sports like Swimming and water Polo. Technology Students Gymkhana acts as a center for numerous extra-curricular and co-curricular activities ranging from sports like badminton, Squash and socio-cultural events.

Life at IIT Kharagpur is excellent most of the times. The experience everyone had at IIT Kharagpur is wide range of people they meet. IIT Kharagpur has 3 fests Kshitij (Tech-fest), Shaurya (Sports fest) and Spring fest (Cultural-fest). During spring fest time the campus is transformed into a vibrant carnival of music, dance and art. Famous singers and bands are invited in this fest.
