Caution Deposit at IIT Kharagpur is Rs. 1000/-

I am very happy to have got into IIT KGP. It has got the largest campus among all the IITs; spread around 2200 acres of land. It is one of the top 10 IITs. The course I have chosen here is Industrial and Systems Engineering and it is offered by this Institute alone.

My course is not very popular and only a few people have heard about it. It is a semi circuital course. To get this course at this Institute, you should have around 3000 AIR in JEE Advanced if you are a general category student. In the first and second semester, they teach common subjects for all of the courses of B.Tech. So in first year, most of the students do not have department specific subjects. From 3rd semester onwards, department-wise subjects are started. In my opinion, this course is kind of underrated but almost has same standing as Mechanical.

The total fee structure for my course is as follows along with various other charges that are charged. We are supposed to pay Rs.1,00,000/- for Total Tuition fee, Rs. 10,000/- as Institute Caution Money, Rs. 1000/- as Library Caution Money (Refundable), Rs. 1000/- Hostel Caution Money, Rs. 4000/- is total Refundable Fee, Rs. 6000/- is Alumni Subscription Fee, Rs. 2000/- is Medical Examination Fee, Rs. 200/- for Students Welfare Fund, Rs. 300/- as One-time Modernization Fee, Rs. 700/- as Statutory Fee, Rs.1500/- as Hostel Admission fee, Rs. 1000/- as Onetime Fee, Rs. 5700/- as TFS Fee, Rs. 100/- for Registration, Rs. 400/- for Examination Fee, Rs. 500/- for Student Amenities Fee, Rs. 800 for Internet Connectivity each semester, Rs. 600/- for Gymkhana Fee, Rs. 600/- for Medical Registration, Rs. 200 for Laboratory Contingency Fee, Rs. 800/- for Hostel Seat Rent, Rs. 750/- for Electricity & Water Charges, Rs. 1000/- as Hall Establishment Charges which is to be paid for each semester, Rs. 20,130/- as Hostel Overhead Charges for each semester, Rs. 970/- for Hall Budget each semester, Rs. 1000/- for Mess Charges each semester, Rs. 14,500/- as Students Brotherhood Fund which is to be paid once a year, and, Rs. 200/- for Insurance Premium paid once in a year.

There are a lot of faculties to teach the students. Different faculties are provided for all the different subjects and all of them are professors who are qualified from different educational Institutions all around the world. For each semester we have different teachers teaching us different courses. Even though the student teacher interaction in the classrooms is low, we can approach them if we are facing any doubts or difficulties; they are always ready to help.

To be talking about placements in industrial and systems engineering the avgas placements in this department comes around 18lpa. There are a very high percentage of people who are getting placed in this department. One could say that industrial and systems engineering is a safe department.

There are around 16 hostels at our Institute. They are called halls inside the campus. Each and every hall provides mess and all other facilities like night canteen, stationary shops etc. to the students. But I would say that the quality changes from one hall to other as different teams manage these mess and the rest.

The campus has had a very eye catching main building. The entrance to it gives one a pleasant feeling. The academic block is near to main building. All the departmental buildings are present in that area. The theory classes mostly occur in the new ‘Nalanda Complex’ which is a huge building with many blocks and classrooms which can almost accommodate the total strength of students at the Institute. All the students buy cycles when they arrive at the Institute, so all the travelling inside the Institute are by these cycles. Campus provides a lot of food spots for students. A student never has to worry about food as he / she could find all the varieties of food inside the campus. Moreover, each and every classroom is air conditioned and have projectors installed.

I am very happy to have gotten into IIT KGP. There are a lot of students in the campus making it vibrant and lively. There are various types of sports facilities provided to the students in the campus. As this is the largest IIT out there, there are a lot of things to explore inside the campus. The Institute provides different societies (clubs). There are even societies that you would have never thought of even (like TeamKART, which is a society which builds test formula prototype cars to participate in various formula bharat competitions). The fests that happen in the campus are out of the world. It is huge experience.
