Thakur’s management college is for those who can’t work hard and get admissions in the A-Rated colleges. TIMSR Mumbai is a 2-tier in terms of B-Schools but for people staying in western belt in Mumbai, the college is not bad either. Thakur College MBA arguably is one of the most attractive options for students of any streams. Engineering student’s ratio is always higher and it was no different at Thakur College of Management. MMS (MBA) to me is an in-depth program based on industrial requirements and therefore had the subjects related to that. As an engineering student it was difficult to crack some of those and Thakur used to organize classes for us on Sunday’s so that we could have a go at it. One problem with Thakur Institute of Management Studies is that it doesn’t market itself like many other colleges do. My subject was marketing and I did ask this question in one of conferences with the management. I wish I could tell the answer that I got then but college is decent and is inside the Thakur educational campus that has schools and other colleges in the same campus.

I was used to assignments but writing assignments on the financial case studies was absolutely new for me. Technical and financial studies are poles apart but yet so similar is something that I figured out at Thakur’s. I always thought commerce students are boring and so are their subjects. The internships were provided and that helped as the practical of what we studied was implied their and since the internship program was after the second semester, it was more or less a program to know where we stand. I got a real idea on the areas I need to work upon and finally made amends in the next two semesters and finally got the placements for which I joined this college.

The faculty was high in experience and some of them are teaching since the institute incepted in 2002. The faculty were the ones who arranged internships for us as they had a hoard of industrial experience behind them. The faculty members were friendly and co-operative and were always available to help us out. However, they scolded with even greater intensity if we are late for classes or didn’t have the submissions ready on time. The faculty always saw goodness in individuals and it was enough from their end to consider them as our mentors for the rest of our lives.

Because many new banks have come up recently the marketing students were high in demand in banks. I never thought even till my final semester that I will be working in a bank but destiny had it all. Yes Bank, Indusind Bank were the top recruiters and many merchant bankers like Bajaj Capital, Reliance Securities, and Kotak Mahindra Capital Company were the ones that had 70-80 percent of us. The package finally justified the fees as Rs. 7-8LPa was average and for a 2-tier B-School these stats are a proof that the students here are quality as most of us did our graduation from top colleges and MMS was just an add-on.

The college has a boy’s accommodation hostel at the campus. I didn’t stay there but those who stayed were happy as at that price it was impossible to find an accommodation in Kandivali. The food at the hostel was optional and all in all a better option for 8-10 outsiders that we had in our batch. Not many students from outside come for MBA in this college but for other courses the outsiders come in large numbers and this is why the college has started boy’s hostel in the campus.

The campus is huge and is one of the landmark of Kandivali. As Thakur Village where the college is located is a landmark of Kandivali East. Talking about the campus, it’s huge and is well-maintained. TIMSR building is the best building you will find as the classrooms were centrally air-conditioned and so was the entire building. The building had a library, auditorium, and Ideation room (Group Study Room), and Thakur College of Engineering was right next to our building. Our building also had a mini sports room but I have not seen anyone using it. Showoff obviously as the building has some great lighting, lobby, and most importantly the digital library. The cafeteria on our floor was an ice-breaker during the lectures break. A five-star hotel can take inspiration from TIMSR building as it was so damn well constructed. The campus had many other college buildings and there was a cricket field which hardly had any grass. I wish they had built clay courts instead of that. The infrastructure is great as the location, connectivity, and the college building are great.

Case studies, classes, and then homework as we couldn’t finish it at the college so had to do that at night as well. The classrooms never made us feel away from home as the chairs and tables and the ACs were better than what I have at my home. That made me go to college daily and I haven’t bunk for 2 days continuously. The campus was addictive as there were students from other departments who used to come to us as they felt we are at a better space then them to guide them. The events and fests at the college are every week thing as the notice board is always full of that.
